Born Again Redneck in the State of Jefferson

Nothing throws a liberal into spasms of fear and hatred like someone who seriously embraces their faith.
I'll agree that Pentecostals are a somewhat bizarre and frisky bunch, but aren't generally known for killing people or stealing cars or anything like that.

Better a Christian Fundamentalist than a Secular Fundamentalist any day. It sounds like an oxymoron but there is such thing as a secular fundamentalist.

I was not surprised when I discovered that Sarah was Pentecostal. I could run on and on here, but I'll try not to.
I was deeply involved in the Assemblies of God at one point in my life. I held ministerial credentials with the AG, served two congregations as a Pastor, and founded a church as a missionary on an Indian Reservation. The Assemblies of God is "big" in Alaska. It has been many years, but my memory tells me that there were more AG churches per citizen in Alaska than in any other State.
I know for certain that the Pentecostal experience is very real. And that "spirit-filled" experience (as I have seen disparaged by the MSM) is surely nothing to fear.
I think I commented before on this blog that after I saw her initial introduction as VP nominee that my first thought was "Pentecostal, or Mormon."
As I looked into her bio, I found that she was AG (Pentecostal). I was not surprised at all. Being a member of an AG church is not something to be feared. Even though I was booted from the fellowship of ministers, I don't hold any ill will toward the AG, or its' adherents...especially not Sarah (she reminds me of dozens of Pentecostal women that I have known over the years).
John Ashcroft (whose Grandfather...I think...was one of the founders of the AG) was truly crucified by the MSM. Sarah will be also.
But Sarah is younger than Ashcroft was. Ashcroft was not really healthy at the time as I remember. John had "done his due" to the nation, and I think was just ready to go home.
I believe that Sarah will weather all of this...even being "Pentecostal"...

Patrick, I am sure that you do my friend. What a journey we all travel spiritually...if we don't quit walking, huh?

Just another note on Sarah. I found out two days ago that my wife's Uncle is a friend of Sarah. She invited him to her inauguration, and they are friendly. In fact, he loves her.
Now, I know Uncle Bill. He's an old rock-headed country boy from the plains of Oklahoma. He went to Alaska about 40 years ago to work on the pipeline.
He has a son that retired from the US Air Force, who went to the Academy in the 60's, and finished his career after being called back from retirement to serve after 9/11. They are real Americans.
If there was one bit of "fake" in Sarah, Bill wouldn't have anything to do with her. The original point of this post had to do with her religion. Bill was raised Baptist...and some Baptists want nothing to do with Pentecostals (I know).
Guys like Bill would laugh at "snake-handling, poison-drinking, fire-walking" zealots. But he doesn't laugh at her at all. He has great respect for her...and (maybe)consequently some more respect for her church.
It's going to be interesting for me, as a former AG member to see if the MSM will go after Obama's Church eventually. In many ways, I'd rather be a "holy roller," than an "America hater."

Andy, that's fascinating about Bill. We've got two churches in our village: the Pentecostal "community church" which is big and the Baptist church which is the size of a garage. Our Pentecostal church recently stopped "talking in tongues" so my next door neighbors left it and joined the Four Square church in the big city. The thing about small towns is that everybody HAS to get along whether Baptist or Pentecostal, Democrat or Republican or us three nutty bachelors at Robin's Wood. In the end we're all Americans. I suppose it helps that we are all farmers, hunters and gun owners.

I have gone to Bible churches most of my life and I love them. There is nothing cult like about them. Just another area for the left to criticize. They are really scared of her so they are going to look for anything and everything to bash her for. I can guarantee you that none of her preachers were like Obama's beloved Reverend Wright.
