Yes Patrick, I believe that this Cap and Trade thing is going to die in the Senate. My dem Senator is not thrilled with it...still not sure where she will finally land.
I often wonder had McCain been elected if he would have truly pushed for Cap and Trade legislation. My memory is that he supported it during his campaign. Could be wrong.
It would have been harder for the Republicans in the Senate to fight their own Republican President on it.
Byrd is a big spender but he's a "good ol'e boy" Democrat from a very culturally conservative coal state. Thank God for Dems like Byrd that, unfortunately and mostly, don't exist today. The only exception are a few from far right leaning states in the South and West, who have to be that way or they will get booted out of office!
Andy-no doubt in my mind he would have supported it. One of the earliest US Capn'Trade proposals was McCain-Lieberman.
