Jessica,
As I said in my piece, Wayne Herder assures me that the hologram on the back of the license is just a hologram, referred to as a Common Security Element. He has no plans for RFID, and will deal with fighting the Real ID act when it gets here, which is by May 2008.

Anymore updates on this "crap"? I just got my new NC licence today...didn't really take at look at the thing until I got back to work. So I called them to ask them what the heck it was???? They told me that they cannot discuss it due to secuity reasons! Exactly, what are they securing?? I don't like this at ALL! Please keep us posted as to what you may hear.

If you are concerned, 2 seconds in the microwave should be the end of any embedded RFID chips. Thats the first place my new passport is going.

How will your state adapt to the Real Id Act? Easily. It's the old recipe that obviously works: convince everyone it's good for you. Well... everyone except you and me and a few others. And they will give us no choice.
