When I worked in the hospital, it used to make my day when patients would be happy to see me back the next night, or sad when I said good-bye in the morning and told them I'd be off that night. If I am ever sick in the hospital, I'd be thrilled to have you as my nurse. It is too bad many are not concientious. I hear ya on that one for sure!

Thanks Lisa! I had a pretty good day today! As we all know, there are the good ones and the bad ones. We just hope that the good ones outweigh!!

I hear ya!
What is it with the higher acuities at the moment? We're swamped, and it isn't the flu, either. Everyone is running their behinds off.
You pretty much described the reasons why I (and a few of my colleagues) have chart stacks while others seem to have magazine time - we're taking care of patients, but not just our own! Like I'm going to pass by a patient who needs a commode and say "wait for your nurse".
I'm always happy when the patient asks if I will be following them up to their room to be their nurse : ).
Wouldn't it be an odd thing if you were assigned a patient on admission from the minute they get to the ER, through the OR or ICU, onto the tele floor and then med/surg? Now THAT would be continutity of care! And a 1:1 ratio, so it is just a pipe dream.

Kim, It would be great to have a 1:1 ratio but we all know that will NEVER happen. Unless one is a private duty nurse for a millionaire. I love spending time with my patients and I always feel like I'm nursing the chart instead.
