Gravatar It would somehow make it seem just a bit better if this only happened in the medical profession, but sadly, it is every where in society. It is not exclusive to our own country, but worldwide.

I guess the best example I have seen of it recently, that almost everyone can relate to, is what I call the boylemania.

You know Susan Boyle who was on Britian's Got Talent? She was laughed at, given dirty looks, eyes were rolled when people looked at her, and then she opened her mouth and began to sing. Within the first 8 words the same people who were just laughing at her, were now giving her a standing ovation. It seems the whole world stopped at that moment.

God gives us all something good, but so many times we refuse to see the good in others because we can't seem to get past physical appearance.

Shame on us for being the way we are.

Gravatar Cathy, You are very right concerning the
misconceptions about people. I LOVED the video of Susan Boyle. I actually cried and had goosebumps. I have never had such a reaction to someone sing. Would I have had the same reaction had I not seen her first? I don't think so?

Gravatar P.S. Cathy, I need an invite to read your blog.. Thanks!

Gravatar Honey, I would give you an invite in a heartbeat, but it is not JUST open to only allow certain people to read it. I have not been updating much at all so I have been keeping it closed. When I have anything worth while to say again I will leave you a comment that it is open again...

Gravatar This is such a good point. I have learned not to judge the patients and it is BECAUSE they have often judged me! I don't have this as much anymore after working as a NP in the same town for 10 years, but when I first started patients would often refuse to see me because I looked much younger than they expected. Now they know me and I have aged a bit from 10 yrs in the trenches! haha. But I have been told by patients they appreciated me NOT judging them for certain things. We all needed this wake-up call. Thanks for sharing. JButler www.np-viewsandnews.com

Gravatar Thanks Cathy! I will look forward to your updates.

Gravatar Jennifer, my patients are surprised to find that I am as old as I am (which is a huge compliment!) I have managed to age pretty well and will be 42 this year. I can see how it would aggravate a provider not to be taken seriously according to how old they looked. Thanks so much for commenting!
