Gravatar Nice pics! And a nice story there, at the end. Will be looking for the next installation. How did the singing go, BTW?

Gravatar (Oh, and Welcome Home!)

Gravatar What a wonderful trip for you. Wells is superb and the city as lovely as any in the UK.

Gravatar Thanks folks. The singing went well bls...both for the choir as a whole, and for me. Basically, the daily practices helped me to get a sense of where I could help and where I should stay out of the way.

There really is a particular "style" to the English Evensong service...a particular way to phrase the responses and psalms...I dare say that by the end of the week we were getting the hang of it. The opportunity to engage in daily worship in that great space did a lot for us all, and it seems that we have a good enough rep now with the trip organizers that we will be up for future gigs. It takes several years to get into the more sought after cathedrals...3 years or so for Wells, Ely, Chichester, Sailsbury, etc and up to 4 or 5 years for the biggies like Canterbury, Westminster, or even Durham. So I'm going to start saving now!

You are spot on regarding Wells Davis...a real charmer. London was spectacular, but in some regard, it felt like any huge city. Somerset on the other hand had a flavor all its own...and wonderful (and strong) cider!

Grace and Peace,
Joe

Gravatar Sounds like a wonderful trip.

Did you get out to Canterbury at all? I have a special place in my heart for Canterbury Cathedral.

Gravatar No JT, unfortunetly I did not make it to Canterbury (sort of ironic, no?)

A couple of folks from our group who had already "done" London took a train there on our last full day, but I had so many places in the city that I wanted to see. Everyone who went said that it was truly a special place...and that was after spending a lot of time in cathedrals in Wells, Winchester, Bath, Bristol, and London throughout the week.

I'll have to put in on my list for next time.

Grace and Peace,
Joe
