Gravatar This is deep stuff. Thanksfor mining this vein so completely !

Gravatar Chris, you're my hero.

Gravatar Wow, I was going to compile a collection to show the treatment of this song at some point too. I guess I'll pick something else now, you nailed it!

My last track was going to be Roswell Rudd + Sonic Youth on "The Harry Smith Project Live Vol. 1"

Gravatar The local educational broadcaster included the scene with the opening of the Waring version in what seemed like an endless series of ads for The Singing Detective...causing it to be permanently lodged in my head!

Gravatar Yeah, it was rewatching "Singing Detective" that inspired the whole mess.

William, I really ran out of steam around the '60s (there are only so many versions of this song you can hear without going mad), so I'm sure there's plenty of room for other surveys. The Sonic Youth/Rudd sounds cool.

Gravatar Fantastic post.

Gravatar I haven't seen The Prisoner in too many years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, (and thanks for all the new information).

Gravatar You have a fantastic site. Thx for all the hard work that you put into it. Question: given all the attention to drinkin' songs this week (barstool mtn, big rock candy)... any chance you could be persuaded to re-post your "7 drinks of man" series? It looks so good, and I've never heard the vast majority of those songs.
Thx again for your write-ups and song postings.

Gravatar Fantastic! Thank you for the continuing education.

Gravatar Kay Starr got me feeling pretty nice. Thank you.

Gravatar And how about, for something that's somewhat tangential but fits, Blind Blake's Dry Bone Shuffle?

Wonderful post. I know think of this as something more than a kid's song.

Kate G

Gravatar Well done, really like the Shirley Caesar version. I wasnt aware of the songs origon. Thanks for sharing and educating.
