Gravatar I walked the 'Jurassic Coast' portion of the SW coast path three or four years back and I seem to recall the section just east of Lyme Regis was closed even then (requiring a large inland diversion and walking across a golf course - I think I'd have preferred the risk of a landslip to having golf balls aimed at me by my so-called betters).

I've been toying with the idea of doing a bloggy field trip down there when I'm back in the summer, since I'm probably going to be in Southampton for a couple of weeks.

Gravatar I am glad no one was injured. I hope the authorities are able to control access to the debris field.

Another way to look at this, though, is how many new fossils have been exposed in the new scarp?

Stay safe. Geology will get 99.99% of us, eventually. It's only that lucky .01% or so that even has a chance to be fossilized.

Gravatar There are already idiots out on the landslide, despite the coastguard saying it's still really unstable - the landslip is STILL MOVING!! I'd shrug it off as natural selection, but most of the fossil collectors look old enough to have already propagated their genetic information...
