Gravatar Boy, you got me there, Julie. Kinda reminds me of ....

A Democrat's View of Social Security

"I believe in personal accounts."

-- FDR

Gravatar or ... here's another addition to the very thin book library ...

"Political Accomplishments of Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower" ...

or

"'It's only a Half Century' -- Great Policy Positions Formed from the Inside of a Time Machine" ...

Gravatar I believe in personal accounts too. I have a 401k that I regularly contribute to and used to contribute to an IRA. I also believe in Social Security, like FDR.

Gravatar Ah ... Grasshoppah,

But FDR thought pers. accts. would be a good idea within SS.

Gravatar Wow DC now your channeling the dead amazing how do you do it?

Gravatar "Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires . . . Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

Nice.

DC . . . Roosevelt did believe in personal accounts, in addition to SS insurance.

As do I. That's why I have a 401(k) as well. You're just a bit out of context. But you knew that, right?

Gravatar Great quote. I even swiped it for my site. But, point of fact, Eisenhower wasn't president in 1952.

Gravatar Whoops . . .

Julie?

Gravatar That proves it. The whole liberal ideology is a fraud. I knew it. Ha. Ha.

Seriously ... who cares?

Gravatar When referring to him you still include the title regardless of the time of the refrence.

Gravatar Actually, it appears that maybe the date -- not the quote or the title -- was wrong. A quick Google search suggests that Eisenhower made this comment in a May 2, 1956 letter to his brother. If it worries anybody that much take a loog at: http://buffaloreport.com/2004/ 04...k.liberals.html

Gravatar Thanks Dave!

So much for MY fact checking!

Gravatar Would that be Ike going negative ... or ad hominem? Ah ... I am going back to reread his book of presidential accomplishments, which if I recall correctly, included appointed Justice Brennan.

Ike was a good general. A bozo as president.

Gravatar That would by Ike writing to his brother in a personal letter. That was not Ike in a press conference. I think the context makes a difference.

Gravatar My posting it, however, does make it an ad hominem attack. So sue me.

Gravatar I could care less if you go the ad hominem way of the rest of your liberal brethren. Just quit whining about it ... especially when it is not occurring.

Gravatar You did too

Gravatar Both the 1952 date and the 1956 date are incorrect. The real date is November 8, 1954.

The source is in the Eisenhower Papers on line. It is from a personal
and confidential letter from Ike to his brother Edgar Newton Eisenhower.
http://www.eisenhowermemorial.or...uments/ 1147.cfm

Since the letter was personal and confidential Ike was not guarded about his comments.

Here's the whole paragraph:

"Now it is true that I believe this country is following a dangerous trend when it permits too great a degree of centralization of governmental functions. I oppose this--in some instances the fight is a rather desperate one. But to attain any success it is quite clear that the Federal government cannot avoid or escape responsibilities which the mass of the people firmly believe should be undertaken by it. The political processes of our country are such that if a rule of reason is not applied in this effort, we will lose everything--even to a possible and drastic change in the Constitution. This is what I mean by my constant insistence upon "moderation" in government. Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt (you possibly know his background), a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

Gravatar Thanks Gregory! I'll check the link. I've quoted Eisenhower a couple times and I'd like it to be correct.
