Er... if you look in the section of the Techniques Booklet that came with the kit... Double Knitting is explained there.
It isn't actually critical. You can just work the strap in the round, but it's kind of a pain in the neck to do it that way - I used double knitting to make it a little easier.
Oh, and BTW...? The drop of blood is actually supposed to go in front.
