Gravatar On the topic of mandating analogue to digital television in the US by 2009, how does that affect Canada when we receive so much television signal from the US?

I can only speculate it's going to cut off an untold multitude of low income persons in the US from any signal at all. Does that mean the end of worries about MSM bias? Since there won't be /any/ news getting to those who can't afford a digital unit?

Gravatar The TV comment is just wrong - the US Congress is going to spend billions subsidizing set-top boxes for old TVs to make them compatible with HD signals.

Now, as new TVs get cheaper and better, people may start replacing old ones more quickly. But there's not going to be the instant obsolescence that the author is worried about.

Gravatar John: Thanks for the correction, that certainly makes more sense than the alternative...though it too seems like a rather pointless waste of resources compared to simply allowing analog TV to continue to exist.
