Remember fixed election dates?
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, and dammit, shame on me. Don't be fooled again.
I have to laugh when I hear liberal supporters saying that Harper is scared of the libs. No, he is playing them for fools, again.
Those are just statements of principles but not ones to live by or uphold.
Depending on polling Harper might play nice so he can hold off an election till 2010, and thus get to stack the senate, or if he thinks he can win a majority, he will ensure his governments defeat. Either way he wins, except if the coalition comes to power for that 18 month window of opportunity.

"Former broadcaster Pamela Wallin, another Senate appointee, said she and her peers are all "very committed" to the Conservative government's position on Senate reform, including elected Senators and eight-year term limits, however she said that it is merely a statement of principle."
That "merely" is a nice touch.

Jan: Agreed entirely. And the Cons' attempts to act more conciliatory are especially laughable considering they took the exact same line before their fiscal update.
Alison: No argument there. And Wallin's position may be particularly interesting to watch since she's supposedly agreed to step down before 2011 when Saskatchewan would be holding a Senate election.
