That sounds remarkably familiar for some reason.
More later, but not while I'm at work.

Well, it started out as a raindrop and turned into a bit of a deluge. So I got a little frustrated with the little comment box and decided to post a reply over yonder on my site.
I hope it's even vaguely what you were looking for.

OK some serious and some not so serious...
Serious, I think loving yourself is a bunch of crap. All it does is perpetuate the "Me" society. Jesus never told us to love ourselves, and he never said that he loved himself.
He told us over and over that we are to love others. I believe that the church is in the state it's in because pastors haven't had the guts or the ability to model this love or to tell their congregations that they don't love enough. That is why too many pastors are preaching their churches down to four!
On the other hand, as a society we have a big problem with community. We love ourselves so much that we don't need the love of anyone else. We also use so much energy loving ourselves that we can't possible love anyone else.
OK, I've gone on too much.
Here's what I think you should do. Sing, "The Greatest Love of All." Then sit down. That'll preach!
