Howard Hughes is lovin' you, today!
Also reminds me of the great Buffalo Springfield song:
...Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away...

What? You can't see my tongue pushing out the side of my cheek?
It brought back memories of grade school days when we watched film strips of kids drinking from a fountain with their lips on the metal "bubble" splashguard. The narrator spoke in rhyme...
"Don't bite the bubble! Avoid germ trouble!"
Still cracks me up even today.
I do think the Avian Flu thing could get a little interesting, however. It's all about human behavior.

In case you didn't know, my husband is the biggest computer geek I've ever met. So, we own most video games (pc and console). World of Warcraft has been our video game of choice since it came out last November. We have several friends on the staff at Blizzard, the company that makes the game, since their world headquarters is about two blocks away from our apartment.
Anyway, the epidemic was only widespread on certain servers and thankfully, neither of us got it. Yay! Our biggest problem at the moment is that it's 94 outside and our air conditioning is broken, so it's 82 in here.

Jim, I wonder why the study about "clean toilet seats" is resurfacing? I started to do a post about it a few days back after reading an article in the Wall Street Journal about workplace cleanliness (your computer keyboard is 1,000 times "germier" than the average workplace toilet seat...and don't even get me started about the top of your desk!). Then I discovered that it all dates back to a scholarly study done in 2002...hardly cutting edge stuff. But it's interesting that it's taking on new life. Wonder if the bird flu thing has anything to do with it?

Hey, whaddaya mean talkin about my desk like that?
I hadn't heard these facts before, nor was I aware of that old study, although I'm not surprised that lots of surfaces are pretty germy.
You're probably right about the avian flu connection.

“the cafeteria trays were very dirty we were very surprised to find … the bacteria and mold count on the water fountain spigot was almost 1,000 times higher than the count on the toilet seats.”
NO wonder all dogs and maybe half of the cats out there drink out of the toilet bowl! jooooooj!
My kids got way healthier when they graduated!

You know, I always wondered why that was. I think you're onto something.
