It is the PR blogdigger group, we are all reading and responding to each other.
The way to break out of the echo chamber is to start linking to some Houston business blogs. Most of my readers are not PR pros, local or national. Most are civil servants and local software developers.

Excellent point, Alice ... I've done some of that, but probably need to do more.
I have noticed a spike in readership when I trackback to a Houston political or business blog, but it is always temporary and I rarely get comments from my post. But at the least, it is expanding the circle of thought.

A mom with three young kids reads you. That doesn't sound like your target audience.

I read almost everday - most often I don't post because I enjoy hearing your point of view... Keep posting! Your blog is by far the most updated and interesting one I've come across so far.

John, yours is one of the few "PR blogs" I read because you, like one of my other favorite bloggers Tom Murphy, post solid articles replete with common sense and devoid of hyperbole. While your clients may not be reading you today, you are creating a nice library of thought that will be around for a long time -- there is no expiration date on good content.

I read as well...But for more selfish reasons. As a journalist, I may want to leave one day for a more "normal" life, and your blog gives me some insight into what is a foreign world.

Rob, as a former journalist-turned-PR person, trust me -- this life is anything but normal

Everyone:
Thanks for reading ... I didn't mean for it to sound as if I was begging people to respond. But I do appreciate your readership and your kind words. And I know that even if one person read me every day, I would be making a difference.
At the same time, I feel strongly that we -- PR bloggers -- are not having the impact we should be having because so many of our peers and colleagues are NOT plugged in.
Some in the PR blogosphere believe everyone should be blogging, etc. I think we need to start with having people read and participate with the blogs that are already there.
Does that make sense???

I get what you're saying. PR folks really need to be on top of things in general - and should be ahead of the curve on communications tools like blogging.
It's also a great way to share ideas - I'm surprised more aren't taking part.

Maybe I'm your only former colleague who reads your blog regularly.
For me, On Message is right up there with the morning sports page and The Onion.
