Thanks for posting that link, it's quite interesting.
I have to say, though, that the idea there's no racial motivation to the nooses in the tree strikes as pretty unlikely. And I'm guessing that a lot of black citizens of Jena heard that and thought, "Oh yeah, right."
So, while I think the timeline is clearly trying to present a certain view (everything was fine until the media fanned the flames), it does do a good job of showing that there's more to this story than the first and last incidents.
John ... I agree with your points completely.
It is clear the newspaper's timeline was written with a certain agenda but like you say it spells out some of these events in a way that is much more precise than what most media have done.
It takes six of those big fellas to beat up one white boy? They're only innocent from the perspective of those who weren't at the receiving end of those twelve fists.
The beating was anything but a good example from the black community to the white.
Bell is a criminal as he had 4 prior convictions for assault by the time he was 16 for crying out loud. He should be in jail, he's dangerous. Which white kids in that prosecutor's jurisdiction had that kind of record to draw a comparison?? The US District Attorney who is black stated that the prosecutor was well within his rights to try the little creap as an adult. Crime is crime, keep him in jail!!
