Jay, thanks for the shout-out.
One slight correction though: In 2000, the upstate numbers were Lazio (50), Hillary (47). However, historically, a New York Republican has to take the upstate counties by some 20 percent (i.e., 60-40) in order to offset the overwhelming Democratic vote in NYC. You are essentially right though -- a 3-percentage "loss" for a Democrat upstate essentially amounts to an overall victory.
