Ahem. Longtime lurker, first-time poster. I wasn't alive in 1960 so I have no idea if this depiction is accurate. But times have changed a lot since then, and the basic standards of decency and fairness that I believe existed then do not now. The culture has coursened unbelievably (thank you, 60s counter-culture). How are conservatives supposed to stand by, smile and nod after an election in which the media showed its true self for once and for all, being unapologetically biased for Obama and doing no reporting on his background and incredibly thin record--misusing their power disgustingly; in which Sarah Palin was vilified the moment she stepped on the stage, her family dragged through the mud as well as her name (the insane rantings and vulgar insults hurled at her on left-wing blogs made me sick to my stomach more than once); and in which many voters pulled the lever based on emotions and the vague notion of "change" rather than a real, hard look at the issues, the principles involved and the stances of the candidates? A good article commenting on this is here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/...hope-
Earth.html. Money quote: "The swooning frenzy over the choice of Barack Obama as President of the United States must be one of the most absurd waves of self-deception and swirling fantasy ever to sweep through an advanced civilisation." It would be impossible to now say "let's join hands and sing kumbaya and have a martini" after such a farce of an election. Having a martini to blot out what just happened and the continual downfall of Western society and our once-great nation--that I'll say cheers to.
