Narcissism 2.0 -- Where the end user gets to OWN the mirror he worships.

scathing. i'm regretting not writing the 'where did PR 1.7.0.9 go?' post earlier this.
i am a big fan of the conversation though...

Thanks...I think.
I totally "grok" (another cliche!) what you are saying, Kami, I "get your drift."
Certainly, I am all in favor of good, crisp writing and cogent, compelling thinking. I also don't take the whole 2.0 thing (or myself) very seriously. To me it's just short-hand for "our trade is changing." Certainly ya can't argue with THAT.
The thing about cliches is that they come into being because they work. They may be annoying, but they "get the job done." (lookee, another one!)
The 2.0 phraseology won't last, of course. And I daresay we'll never hear of a 3.0 era (god forbid).
Then again - who knows? I wouldn't want to count my chickens before they've hatched...

Ike; Ah narcissim and blogging, luckily you have escaped its grip.
Ed Lee; Don't let me stop you from "futhering the coversation," another one of my favs. There is nothing like a little "link love." Okay, don't get me going again...
Todd; Of course it's a compliment. How many people coin a cliche?

I am pleased to announce that my solutions-oriented approach to PR allows me to avoid reinventing the wheel, instead utilizing best practices to choose proven cliches that add value and drive traffic.
As you can see, I "get it."

*cough* Perhaps the biggest PR cliche is "strategy" - the label given to a multi-step campaign plan that is, in every other way, lacking detailed insight, feedback and evaluation. *cough*

Colin; Strategies are not the end-all, they are supposed to support objectives, which are statements that have measureable outcomes. Meaning that there is accountability in objectives, but not in strategies.

Sure - but an objective is a statement of desired outcome. It's the strategy that sets out the steps needed to achieve that outcome.
My point was, most PR folks take a shopping list of activities and call it a strategy, even if they have done no advanced thinking on the file at all.

Not cliches, per say, but the word, "Ubiquitous."
What is an "A-lister" and who cares?
Also, people are still constantly referencing book, The World is Flat.

ROFL, good one, Kami!
Let me tell you that "conversational media" has become a cliche somewhere! I'm getting tired of having to explain what it is the first time I mention the term to just about anyone. Baby steps....

Amy; It is a cliche to us, but Greek to the rest of the world. I think if we want to bring people along, we have to take care with our language. What do others think?

Oh, I totally agree! That's why I call RSS simply "feeds." Easier for people to grasp, and who needs another geeky acronym?

I like that. I also tell other PRs that it is a way to get your writing syndicated, they like that idea.
