Communication Overtones Comments

Kami, I was reading fast and thought the title of your post was "PR and Advertising are Equally Offensive."
Ah well.
My experience when I was working in campaign politics was that "earned media" (i.e., PR, in the jargon of campaigns) was FAR more effective than "paid media" (i.e, advertising) -- because of the implied third-party endorsement. PR can also be far more cost-effective in a cash-strapped environment.
Advertising has its place, of course, my first choice is almost inevitably a well-designed, well-executed, strategic PR plan.

Shaula; Hey, whatever drives traffic (ha-ha). No, obviously I agree that a PR campaign is preferred. But I think we need to make sure we don't make unsubstantiated claims about the effectiveness of PR. In other words, PR is pretty effective, even without embellishment.

Agreed. The hype does the industry a disservice.
