Communication Overtones Comments

Gravatar I'm standing and clapping. That was fantastic.

I do it the same way you describe. Put the kids to bed then burn the midnight oil. I should do more with and for them and my wife, and more for myself, too.

I'm making a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Thank you!

Gravatar You nailed it on this one. Thank you for the post.

Gravatar Awesome, Jason!

Gravatar Nice post, Kami.

I struggle with work/life balance all the time. For me, the key is learning to say "no" so that I don't overload my schedule. Not carrying an always-on mobile phone is also a great help. Clients can leave a message on my office line and I will get back to them in 2 hours. I don't want to take calls when I'm eating lunch, in a client meeting, or driving my daughter to school.

During the summer I try to enjoy weekends (or at least Sundays) where I am totally offline.

Gravatar This really caught my eye!

It is sooo true!

Gravatar This is one of those 2X4's to the head that we all need from time to time. Very nicely put. Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your stuff.

Gravatar This really hits home for me especially as I work out of my home and never "leave the office" per se. A good friend of mine just had his 4 year old have to go in for heart surgery to repair a hole that has never closed up. The child is doing fine and a complete recovery is expected. Seeing what he is going through put my whole life/work balance in a new perspective and am trying to make some changes in my life to reflect that which is truly important on a day-to-day basis.

Gravatar Lauren, nice post. I've done a few things to improve work/life balance--the one that seems to have made the most difference is cutting out most television. I used to have shows that were "can't miss" those led to others, and then others...it's amazing what getting back that time at night can do.

News I get online, along with weather. Not much need for the rest, giving me time to read, walk the dog, talk with the SO, etc. Balance. Everything in life is about balance...

Jen

Gravatar It's amazing how such a simple example can have so much meaning. Excellent advice!!

Gravatar Lauren;

Thanks for writing this post and allowing me to keep my work/life balance in perspective this week. You see, sometimes you can also let your friends take care of the pebbles and sand while you attend to the golf balls.

Thanks!

Kami

Gravatar For as long as you need, Kami!

Gravatar The sand [the litle things] are very important in my life.

D.
