Communication Overtones Comments

Gravatar Kami,

Well said. I got hooked on social media when I realized how powerful it was in terms of long-tail search success. That alone is interesting. The other stuff it does is icing.

I'm not one of those "it slices, it dices, it cleans the rugs" guys who thinks you need to kill your ad/PR programs and just do this. But I do think you need to learn how to talk again.

Enjoy following you on Twitter (which is how I found this post).

~Jim

Gravatar Great post. The permanent question is this one you answer here. How do you reach those who are not social media users? Many of them ARE users, but not in the conventional way(it sounds strange to talk of conventions in the social media ground), and without knowing it.

This post is a "must read" when we try to explain others why they must pay attention to social media.

Gravatar Jim, I am also not a proponant of the "social media is everything" philosophy. Clearly right now it is a focus. But as Ignacio points out social media bleeds into other channels in "non-conventional" ways.

Gravatar You don't have to be popular to be influential.

Were you thinking of me again?

Gravatar For those of us who are involved in social media, it does sometimes come as a surprise to be reminded that not everyone reads blogs, writes blogs or gets involved. I know I have been caught out on several occasions. But your points are really interesting - social media obviously has a reach far beyond direct contact.

Thanks for your great post.

Gravatar Ike; It is always about you, whaddaya mean?

Nancy; Thanks for your comment. I think it is true that we often fail to look at this phenomenon from an outsider's perspective.
