Communication Overtones Comments

Gravatar Another notification method is pushing web notifications into the current browser window. This is done by a local company, PerfTech (http://perftech.com/).

I wonder what most collee students were doing just prior to going to class? Reding email? Updating their MySpace profiles?

In any case, I bet a lot of them were looking at a browser window.

Gravatar Great post, Kami! thanks for these resources and good information. I advise the student-run PR agency at the Univ. of Oregon and we were talking about crisis communication last night.

I had just read your post, so I asked them... "If the UofO had to be locked down between 8 and 9 am, how would you need to be contacted?"

Overwhelmingly the students (about 35 in the room) said that text messages would be the best way to let them know. About half said email and about the same said a Web notification.

The students big concern was how often their cell phone numbers change and how the UofO would track that.

Gravatar Rob; Interesting service. I will investigate it further.

Kelli; I agree that information management will be an issue. I think that eCampus is an opt-in service, putting the onus on the students to keep their info up-to-date. As for corporate applications, there most likely would need to be a different solution.
