I do LOVE that sample from "Blazing Arrow". Nilsson is so much more than the cocaonut song and "I can't liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive. I can't liiiiiiiive anymooooooooore".

But what's truly great about Blazing Arrow is that it still kicks ass even without the sample. It might be in iambic heptameter.
People unfamiliar with The Point, might not realize that Arrow is a dog. The fact that nobody names their dogs Arrow anymore is a global tragedy.

It is true. I think that WHO has the Arrow-Dog business wedged between cholera and malaria as dangerous trends to public health.

Did you just use the phrase iambic heptameter? Brings me back to middle school.

Nice to see another SMiLE fan out there. It's so annoying that the finished SMiLE, while brilliant, doesn't have Brian's amazing mid-'60s vocals. Sigh.

The Uncanny One loves the new SMilE for its finishedness, but Pinko here is sad for the loss of vocal ability of BM. The new vocals for the middle of Mrs. O'Leary's Cow, where he's singing about it being "Hotter than hell" is a point that equals some of the old stuff. The original Cabinessence I think is a case in point. The new one just doesn't hit the same high point, but it is close.

It's true. The finished product is absolute genius and he was so damned close to this back in the '60s. I know some people have gone back to the bootlegs and resequnced them when possible, mixing in some new material to make it flow through the suites. I think the only thing to do is to cherish both versions. To me the songs that suffer the most were the ones that were entirely completed and already released. For example Surf's Up. The Beach Boys version was already perfect; all Brian Wilson could do after that was sing it less well and throw in cheesy oh god refrains.
