Could you imagine the world's reaction if Israel had fired on the boats?
No way they could have ignored that crime against humanity.

YUP, they made it against ALL odds ... but if you read in the paper (Ma'an for example), it becomes very clear that this was and will remain a one-time thing and effectively didn't achieve ANY long-term change ... and that's what the folks in Gaza so urgently need!!
Did you REALLY think they can break the siege?? No you didn't .. you know better than that and are NOT naive!
Believe me dear friend, if there would be even a REMOTE chance to make a significant change, even a MINOR change in favor of the people, legally, so that NOBODY could come along with phoney laws (which, like in Israel's case, are home-knit), I'd be ALL PRO and the first to say "YES, let's do it!!"
Those two boats were nothing but lucky, made a one-time statement ONLY because Israel is scared of a MAJOR negative PR ... and that's it! To spend $300.000 dollars or more for that is wasted money ... it does NOT bring the long-lasting outcome so desperately needed!
Antibiotics are still missing, anaesthetics, dialysis equipment, cancer medication, pain medication ... the list is endless!
So what was EFFECTIVELY accomplished?
SURE it was great they arrived, they set an example ... just nobody else will be able to repeat it without being fired on. Israel says this very clearly ...
It is just NOT-wise to step a military-gigant on his toes - one must expect to get whacked big time! The siege MUST be broken and the occupation lifted ... but that's NOT the right but a naive way!
SO GREAT to see you again dear friend ... I hope youre well!
MISSING YOU - be in touch!!

Hey Ted,
Thanks so much for stopping by!!

You're absolutely right .. and this was the ONLY REASON Israel permittd the boats to pass - they were afraid of miserable PR! In MY eyes ... not enough!
I am a goal-oriented person and GOAL in this case means, LIFT THE SIEGE and finally, THE OCCUPATION and give the Palestinian people the SAME rights the Israelis have!
EFFECTIVELY they didn't accomplish anything which would be any longer-lasting as Israel will not permit another boat and not lift the siege! It was a one-time statement which is great - but FAR too expensive in wake of what COULD have been done with the money they spent! It was GREAT for PR ... but that's not good enough!
Besides - how do they want to get OUT of Gaza? Are you so sure Israel will permit them to sail OUT the way they came in? They - again - have to cross this 12-mile stretch which is controlled by Israel ... I am VEEERY suspicious!!
And to ENTER Israel for to fly out from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv? I don't THINK so!!!
So ... LOTS of unanswered questions and not enough results! And - TOO expensive in my eyes ...
Thanks again for visiting - it's always GREAT to see you!!

Of course it only needs an act of God for two small boats to break the siege over an entire region, but I tend to see it this way:
First off, this has raised a bit of awareness about the Palestinian cause. The cynical will become even more cynical, but the ignorant might start getting an idea about what's really going on in Gaza, and the activists will get motivated in going down the same road.
Furthermore, I don't think Israel could afford the negative PR at ANY time of having fired on boats bringing in food and medical supplies to poor people (I know, they usually don't care about such things very much, but they are aware of this point..). So while this step is only very small, it has paved the road for such attempts in the future, which would hopefully surpass this attempt in magnitude.
And even if such attempts don't contribute to breaking the siege in any way, they at least help against the misery of Gaza's population, which is in itself necessary during this time.
In other words: The path of a thousand miles starts with one single step.
I hope everything's fine on your side! Take good care =)
