As for question 13 (about Talon's readership) Kos addressed that this morning -- here's a quote:

Related to questions about Gannon/Guckert's gay sex websites: If he created them for a client, then why does his half-naked picture appear on one of them? Was that part of the service?

McClellan has said in press briefings that he knew Gannon wasn't his real name, implying that it didn't matter. Why didn't that matter to the White House? Guckert must have known using a pseudonym would matter to the House & Senate, and that may be the reason he used his real name and was denied press credentials by Congress. Also, if Congress wouldn't credential Talon News, why did the White House?

Question #1: The pseudonym dates to 2002. JeffGannon.com was registered on June 17, 2002. I am not aware of any references to the pseudonym which predate that registration. Instead of "Jeff GAnnon" Guckert generally used "The Conservative Guy" or "Conservative Guy" as his online pseudonym until November or December of 2002.

Why are there different standards between Capitol Hill and the WH? And even more pressing, why are the standards for the WH more lax in this day and age?

What are the standards? If a person with a $50 degree working freelance for a website thrown up 3 days prior to the application gets approved, why then have such a small WH press corp.? Why isn't it open to a journalist from Butte, Montana?

2. What branch of what military service was Guckert in? Dates? Ranks? DD214?

3. Thune campaign: was "Gannon" paid by them in any way? From where does his income derive? Follow that money.

4. Does he know Ari? Rove?

Many of these questions, such as his military service, if any, his marital status, etc. would be very easy to answer if anyone cared to investigate. (Those two items are public records.) His travels, employment history, etc., can easily be discovered. Once his life history begins to get filled in, more of his contacts including his relationship with Eberle etc. could be traced. This story is not very hard for a reporter to pursue. The question is whether any news gathering organizations with substantial resources are on the story, and whether they will choose to publish what they find.

As to Sarah's question of why HIM, I think he is by design someone you can easily throw aside and discredit. If at any time the right wants to just disappear him, they can "discover" that he seems to be evading taxes and that he may have been involved with a prostitution business. Voila, he cannot testify credibly in a court of law and he can easily be threatened with jail time. Further, GannonGuckert is probably fairly dependent on his patrons. Which means they're sure he won't get out of line.

On #14, I doubt very much that he is married. He indicated that his mother, brother and brother's wife are being harrassed (and he didn't say by liberals, but in my searching today, I realize that they may have been found by Kos people... also the MailBox etc. location of Bedrock Corrps address may have been flooded with kos people as well.)

On all questions of money for Guckert, also consider Bedrock Corp - a delaware corparation. I believe that's where he does most of his financial dealings, pays for domain names, etc.

Also I suspect that Bedrock Corp may be his primary source of income. He was declined media credentials partly because his primary source of income was not from his job as a"journalist" for Talon. I doubt he had another "job." I'll bet money came into Bedrock Corp for whatever services (advocacy / PR) he does for other groups like the Thune Campaign, the Republicans, 527 groups or even possibly for federal agencies (like the other "journalists.")

Actually, I believe GOPUSA only promised to pay 1/2 of "Gannon's" salary when he was applying for Congressional credentials in December 2003, months after he began attending White House briefings. There is no proof he was ever paid by Talon or GOPUSA.

And if the "Jeff Gannon" alias was on the web in 2002, which predates the founding of "Talon," What was he using the alias for before then?

HOLD WAL-MART ACCOUNTABLE!

Dear Working Families e-Activist:

The world's largest retailer is choosing to destroy the livelihoods of nearly 200 working families rather than accept a fair and impartial agreement on workers' wages and benefits.

Wal-Mart announced Feb. 9 it will shut down the Canadian store where workers had formed a union six months earlier to have a voice on the job. Workers at the Jonquiere, Quebec, store had been negotiating with Wal-Mart for several months, attempting to reach a fair agreement on wages and benefits. The company pulled the plug when workers appealed to the Quebec Labor Ministry to start a process to establish a wage and benefit settlement.

To Colleen's question above, see today's update in Salon,com (Giving "Gannon" a pass." Apparently, "Gannon" was the ONLY "journalist" using the "daily pass" system on any regular basis since they tightened the rules after 9/11/2001. Before then, it was not uncommon for journalists to be issues short term (weekly/monthly) passes even. It is odd that they say he's the ONLY one lately.

Too bad The Daily Show is in reruns this week - this is a perfect Jon Stewart/Rob Corddry moment in fake news. Interestingly, last night's rerun featured a bit from two weeks ago on the Bush press conference which started all this with GannonGuckert's suck-up question. Stewart, who already knew there was something fishy about this guy, called him "Chip Rightwingenstein" of The Bush Agenda Gazette, which is pretty close to the truth.

Rove and DeLay are probably involved in this, but what about "closet case" Ken Mehlman - does he have any connection to Gannon?

I think we need to move away from GannonGukert per se, and move the questioning towards GOPUSA, Eberle, Houston, Endeavor Media Group and the like...There is gold in them hills, I tell ya. We just need to dig...That is where the body is buried...The trail will lead back to Gannon, of course, but it is time to move on to bigger fish, folks...They (i.e. Wolf Blitzer) want us to focus on the gay sites, escorts, etc., so we can be marginalized...Lets go towards the money by asking simply,

On the Talon News/Gopusa separability, Gannon purportedly said in an interview:

"Answering another charge, Gannon denied strongly any tie to GOPUSA: 'I have no relationship with GOPUSA. There's common ownership. I don't do any crossover.' He explained that GOPUSA, 'like other websites,' did distribute Talon News on its site and to members of its email list."

So if they were separate entities, where are the corporate filings? Another nugget regarding the blogging interest in his identity:

"It's very flattering that they're paying so much attention," he said. "GannonGate. That's beautiful! They're making me a rockstar."

CPT_DOOM: Besides postings on jeffgannon.com, Guckert used the alias "Jeff Gannon" to sign up for an anti-immigrant militia called Boot To The Skull in December 2002, and to write for "GOPUSA News". My guess is that the name "Talon News" was created solely to enable Guckert to slip into the White House without sounding like a partisan operative.

Gannon/Guckert claims he was or is in possession of a CIA memo about Valerie Plame. Does the CIA confirm that? Who has seen this memo and, if it exists, what does it say? If Gannon hadn't resigned, would the White House still be issuing him press passes?

Gannon had access to high-level sources, which often figured in his stories, and there've been some questions asked about that already. But I think there needs to be more digging there. For example: How many of Talon News' sources were paid GOP consultants or lobbyists, who didn't disclose the fact and any ties to the Bush administration?

The GOP attitude toward the press appears to be that you buy coverage, much as you buy PR. They've built up this machine. We need to take it apart piece by piece.

he has acknowledged that he knew gannon was a pseudonym -- which measn he knows who gannon really is, and really was, yet in press briefings, he calls gannon by his alias.

how long of a relationship is there between gannon and scott mClellan? is this relationsship one that pre-dates the current administration? is gannon from texas?

given penalties for use of a false name/documentation, and given mcLellan's knowledge in advance of the fraud, can he be held responsible for being a partner in what was an on-going fraudulent act?

since mcLellan knew that gannon was not his real name, what did mcLellan do to alert whomever it was that was doing the daily checks on gannon (if indeed he did NOT have a hard pass) that their security clearance process was fatally flawed?

my whole point here is that whether it be someone -- titular or deep within the white house power pyramid -- be held accountable for the known breach in security. mcLellan has acknowledged he knew gannon was not gannon. yet this man had access and was called on BY FAKE NAME by the same whote house staffer who knew him to be someone different. so, while mClellan might suggest that he knew this person was not a danger to the president, then why wasn't this person known to everyone by his real name and vetted through security by his real name, like everyone else? why did he get a free ride, a knowingly illegal free ride, and who in the white house directed the free ride to be given ?

since we now know one partner in this conspiracy (since it took more than one person to execute this deception and some form of approval of this intentional act of deception to take place, i use the word "conspiracy"), what more does it tske to generate the will to protect the presint's safety?

it is neither an insignificant matter nor one that can be downplayed that someone who was operating under a known alias was able to gain access into the white house on a regular basis -- all the while his being an imposter being known to at least the president's head of media/spin -- and without any other precautins being taken to protect the president from this known imposter freeely walking into the white house.

why is it that no one is bothered y the fact that staff within the bush administration allowed their boss to be possibly placed in a life-threatening situation -- unknowingly he walked into a threatening setting, thereeofre the day of his televsed press conference...

btw,if one thinks through the angle i am suggesting from the other angle (bush knows/knew gannon was a plant) then the conspiratorial decision to perpetrate this fraud extends very deeply within the white house structure, as bush had therefore to have been told. told by whom? and when?

Also, Gannon wrote a small article that appeared in the March, 2004 "American Enterprise", pages 10-11. That's the AEI's flagship magazine, which "gather[s] the best and brightest writers and thinkers--from wherever." Was that random or part of the effort to legitimize the resume of Talon News' "Washington bureau chief"?

Well I, for one, would like to know exactly when that "story" for American Enterprise was written. Ken Joseph, the author of that article, apparently is the organizer of a web site for Assyrian Christians. The web site includes a biography on his experience going to Iraq to serve as a "human shield" before the war. The web site now says that Joseph is writing a book on his experiences called "I was Wrong."

The kicker - the "Gannon" piece in American Enterprise appears to be a summary of the biography Joseph has on his web site, including at least one quote that's a word-for-word copy of what's on the web site. "Gannon" could have written this "story" by doing nothing more than copying off the web site, if that web site was, in fact, up and running with Joseph's information at the time "Gannon" wrote the piece.

It's another potential example of the lack of real reporting on "Gannon's" part.

For websites that have a tendency to vanish or get taken offline, use Coral. All you do is append ".nyud.net:8090" to the hostname part of the URL and a copy is made by Coral and stored in its cache.

(If all of that goes over your head, don't worry, the front page has a handy text box you can paste a link into that will "Coralize" it for you. Try it out.)

The idea would be, instead of linking directly to a website that may well be taken down once discovery is brought to light, link to a Coralized copy of it. Even if the original goes away, the cached copy will stick around.

(I wanted to point to a coralized sample, but Haloscan said my post had too many links. Grr...)

3.) How did you come to meet and be hired by Bobby Eberle, a resident and businessman of Texas? When did he hire you for Talon News?

4.) How did you obtain a private interview with Karl Rove in December, 2003?

5.) Did you visit the Bush ranch in Crawford at any time when the President was there?

6.) Can you provide us with copies of the threatening communications that you state that you have received, including emailed death threats?

7.) What was your length of service in the Marines? Where did you serve? What was your area of speciality? What is your legal obligation to the USMC at this time?

8.) Did you commence or maintain any social relationships with members of the Bush administration, White House or RNC staff before beginning your coverage of the White House?

How did Mr. G obtain clearance for a private interview with Karl Rove, when he was using an assummed name? What sort of background checks were done?

Question for the RNC:

Why was this gentleman credentialled for coverage of the 2004 Republican Convention under an assummed name?




The questions about whether he's married are beside the point. What we need from him are leads to the sources of the money, information about the connections that got him the job of sockpuppet, and potential avenues to explore regarding why this guy was the sockpuppet.

What I've been trying to find out for the last few days of this story is regarding the content of those websites. I tried to access them and they were password protected so I'm unable to view any content. So, what's there? A list of available military escorts? Also as important, who has accounts to these sites? Are they military or not? And I have to wonder to what purposes some of this information might be used.

Not that there's anything wrong with being gay; I'm just getting so damn tired of all the glaring hypocrisy from the neocons and Bushies.

He began using the Gannon name in 2001, while working in Pennsylvania to help a friend with a start-up business in auto repair, one of several jobs he said he'd had outside of journalism prior to coming to Washington.

LOL!!! And here I was thinking one has to get a four-year degree at an accredited institution before breaking into journalism! Turns out all you need to do is work some odd jobs!

A lot of people have wasted a lot of money on those fancy-pants diplomas in journalisming!

By that standard, they should also have gone after Helen Thomas (obviously anti-Bush) and Lester Kingsolving (obviously nuts). For the most part he was largely irrelevant to most of the MSM reporters. People ignored his questions and ignored his stories, from what I hear.

Also, on the daily passes, I'm told they basically never give you any trouble getting one if you call up and ask for one. The people who handle that stuff are usually interns or very young staffers.

renato: if you claimed you were with a news organization they had heard of, you probably could. There's obviously a legitimate question about why they felt like Talon News was a legitimate organization, but on the other hand, if you got a clueless enough intern answering the phone, you could probably give them any name as long as you sounded confident. They'd run your name (real name, not pseudonym) through a computer and make sure you're not on any watch lists, but then you'd be cleared in.

The thing that my friends and I keep asking each other is: "Why THIS guy? Why Gannon/Guckert with his troubled work history, his tax debt to Delaware, no credible experience, etc.?" At some level, the theory that Gannon/Guckert could easily be cast aside just doesn't make sense. There is too much sleaze and too many problems associated with this guy. Something extremely weird and creepy is at the bottom of this.

Apart from a great blast recently by Steve Gilliard, not enough attention has been paid to the security aspect of this. Now we know from Mr. Guckert himself that he is a fine upstanding Christian. But what if he had been closer to a Timothy McVeigh than a Mother Theresa? In that case, the Liberal Bloggers would need to be credited for saving Mr. Bush from an all too possible personal misfortune.

Oh, renato, it doesn't mean I think he's got to be telling the truth, but Guckert is a Germanic name, and if his family pronounces it the German way most Americans would misspell it when writing it down. In German it's pronounced "GOO-kurt", but to most Americans that name looks like it should be pronounced "GUH-kurt".

Including Steve Findley CEO of Titan Dynamics with a new defense contract and ties to Carlile Group with ties to Bush Sr. This smells to me of CIA or NSA or MI.
