It's folks like this that have made politics such a divisive game in the US and in Isreal, where he has also done alot of political consulting. Yes, the way to win, you see is to turn the population against each other. Really enrage them and convince them that they are at war with each other. Great.

I want to know if so-called "libertarians" (are you listening James) who assist the likes of people who would destroy us attain political office, ever hold regrets concerning their work!
Do they expect, if the situation with the theocrats ever got out of control, to be treated better than your average homo because they aided and abetted the rise of the fourth reich?
Or are they so angered about paying taxes (despite being the lowest tax rate in the industrialized world) that they do not care who cuts taxes just as long as they are cut?
My response to this particular fiend is HOW DARE HE!
After Democrats sacrfice to support us; after Massachussetts endures ridicule for taking the lead; after we all suffer depression post November 4th; after the gay community takes a huge part of the blame for a second term of his Idiocy; how dare this rank PIG step up to the altar on our BACKS!
The Guckerts, the Mehlmans, the Log Cabins, all queer, all work against their own kind and their own interests will all in turn take refuge and solace in the laws we will fight to create. Yet they fight against us every step of the way.
THIS IS WHY I AM FOR OUTTING!
They do not deserve to hide behind us. They do not deserve to benefit from our victories and then turn them against our supporters for political victories.
The bible thumpers need to know that those who they consider evil are working amongst them, because only then will the Coalition of the Sick and Twisted fall!

I'm just as pissed as JJenson about Finkelstein getting married in Mass, taking advantage of what so many on the opposite side have worked for -- all while he was building campaigns built in large part on bashing us. And he IS a direct descendent of Hoover, Cohn, Dolan and a long line of nasty ass queens who DO NOT deserve a moment of gay marriage bliss.

Excuse me?
Mr. Jack in the Box,
The republikkkans are not open about their gay colleagues. This party hides their gay enablers as best they can and when brave people like John and Mike Rogers "out' these Mehlmans and Guckerts they are accused of political sabotage.
But it its the other side that is doing the sabotaging. It is the Finkelsteins who fight against the election of any supporter we have to elect our enemies, but now in turn run to the altar.
You will not hear in the media any Republikkkan congratulate Mr. Finkelstein on his nuptials. Not even the ones he directly got elected.
Also, do I need to remind you that in the larger media Repulikkkan mouthpieces keep insisting Mehlman is straight. Even though Mehlman will not give a straight answer. (I know, he can't even talk straight. har de har har).

I have on more point to make on the subject of Mrs. Finkelstein:
This is the type of self loathing homosexual that the non-evangelcal right wing can stomach.
They can "accept" a certain type of homosexual. The type who is not "in your face." The type, who, I am sure, never brings up his partners or discusses "gay" issues.
Who, when takes advantage of the "gay liberal agenda", does so discreetly. Does not mention it until 5 months after the fact. (Was Mike Rogers on his trail?) And ensures the public it was only a civil ceremony, not an in-your-face religious one.
The friends of Mrs. Finkelstein can enjoy his company because he is ASHAMED of who he is. I know the type. The say they do not want to offend their friends, but in reality they are ashamed of who they are.
There can only be one other reason the Finkelsteins did not have a religious ceremony: Mrs. Arthur Finkelstein knows she does not have a soul. It was sold decades ago.

jjensen, you are so correct. Fink is an "acceptable" gay. I'm reminded of the hearings about gays in the military. Senator Strom Thurmond said to Colonel Greta Cammemeyer (who is gay) that she is "different" than those other gays. Basically that her existense was "approved" because she met some criteria by Strom. Of course Strom had to still ask Greta if she had had any therapy for her condition. Strom is a good example of a hypocrite. Strom has a mixed race daughter. Yes, in the tradition of the south he "had" one of his father's maids resulting in a mixed race child - Essie May Williams. As we know, Strom was the most vicious of the Dixiecrats, running for President and his vote-getting technique was to play to the most horrible bigotry against black people. I guess to him, it was "just" politics, ways of getting votes. No problem that his own child suffered as a result of his politics. I suppose she needed to suffer for the "good of the country".

Finkelstein: "I believe that visitation rights, health care benefits and other human relationship contracts that are taken for granted by all married people should be available to partners."
I don't know anything about Finkelstein's personal life, but considering his role in Jesse Helms' political victories, getting his own needs met has to be the principle engine that runs his life. So, I wonder if his references to visitation rights and health care benefits indicate that he may soon need care and support for a serious illness? As I said before, I don't know that this is true, but Finkelstein sounds like the kind of man who dosen't give much of a damn about anybody else, but is keen on making sure that he gets what he needs at the time he needs it.

Wow, thanks again John.
Hey, and if you click on the link from samurai, that hypocritical queer duo ALSO HAS ADOPTED KIDS. WTF?? They best not vacation in Florida!
Ok, is it possible that this guy WAS a self-hating bootlicker, but now has seen the light, a la David Brock? If so, he needs to come out and call his former work evil, and start working to undo the damage he has done, like David is doing. I believe in penance and (some) forgiveness, really I do.
OR, this guy may be a JGuck type who is the opposite of self-hating--who has a severly overdeveloped sense of entitlement. These guys GET OFF on the fact that every other queer gets crucified BUT them, because they are special and above the rules they impose on others. These guys are really dangerous, but I think an overdeveloped-sense-of-entitlement really characterizes the W and DeLay crowd in general. Is why W felt ok with other kids being sent to the Vietnam war he supported, while he skipped Nat'l Guard service to snort coke. Is why DeLay thinks he can get away with murder.
One more thing: the Rovian Machiavellis don't hate gays. They LOVE gays, because as a group they are a convenient scapegoat, and can "mobilize" their otherwise braindead Christian followers (who DO hate gays). But the Roves have nothing PERSONAL against queers, which is why they are happy to let politically-aligned queers in under the wire (and the sheets, apparently).
And you are right. This story needs to be addressed big time in the MSM.

JJensen you're absolutely right !!!!
You know, today throughout Canada, the religious leaders representing Christianity, Unitarianism, Reform Judaism, Sikkhism, Hinduism, and Muslims are marching against the Roman Catholic leadership and the fundamentalist Protestant leaders, many from the USA, in support of a theistically positive response for our GLBT civil and human rights, and especially for expanding marriage rights throughout the provinces not yet covered.
Yes, the reason why the Catholics and the Fundies do not succeed, even with their own elected laity, is because they are confronted not by atheists and secularist humanists, but by men and women of faith who speak about a loving Deity who honours all human loving.

Again, these are the GUYS that deserve to be SHUT DOWN first and foremost. The most damaging group to the Jews in Fascist Germany were the "Jews for Hitler." It was filled with Jeff Gannon's, Ken Mehlman's and Arthur Finkelstein's of their day. I used to compare the "Log Cabin Republicans" to that group but not anymore. The CLOSETED OPENLY hostile gays are the ones we need to TARGET and take down. Once they are exposed, they lose their "beloved access" (like Gannon) and EVENTUALLY try to slither over and join our Civil Rights causes.

Arthur Finkelstein is a Jew - and with that name, obviously a Russian/Polish Jew whose family was pogromed during Czarist Russia.
Triple shame on him for supporting the enemies of his race, and the enemies of his spouse and children.
The man is utterly, utterly despicable.
I am always reminded by Russian Canadians that the Communist Left in Russia was led by Trotsky and other Jews. Even Russian Orthodox turned atheist Lenin knew that the firing squad that killed the Imperial Orthodox Anointed Family of Nicholas II had to be Jews. Orthodox Christians would not do it.
This commentary reflects the fact that this man's political philosophy mirrors the very reactionary forces that killed his family in Russia and the same fascists in Germany who killed more later.

Well it just goes to prove one thing. When you're a republican the party comes FIRST! The party is all that matters, your own life means NOTHING compared to the party. If the person has an (R) after their name, they are a god and your are a worthless minion put on this earth to serve their every command, and if you are gay you had better keep that stuffed away in some deep black hole in space some where or you will be destroyed! It's truly disgusting how some people will do ANYTHING to make money, even if it means standing by and being demonized by those they serve. What a waste!

We are hearing the rumblings of the Republican party moving away from the religious right. We saw that evidenced in the editorial from Sen. Danforth in the NYT.
I would invite y'all to consider this as an opportunity--if Finkelstein doesn't get completely ostracized, he might be a moderating influence in the party on social issues. The seeds of everyone's destruction lie within. The way we will win is not by being at loggerheads with the Republicans, but rather by cultivating dissent from within the party.
They've been great at getting Democrats to fight with one another. It's time the tables turn--and Finkelstein, Danforth, and others might be key players in that.
Time will tell. Many republicans are now realizing that government authoritarianism on any issue--social or otherwise--is contrary to their core conservative beliefs. It's our job to help them see the light.

Dana--in your own special way, you have hit the nail on the head. The Republicans are willing to embrace their bigoted elements in order to gain power. Just read in the New York Times that Arthur Finkelstein is raising money to defeat Hillary Clinton in the 2006 Senate race in New York State. As an upstate New Yorker it ain't gonna happen. This says it all for me.."In recent years, Arthur hasn't pretended to be a social conservative," said one longtime conservative associate, who cited Mr. Finkelstein's aversion to publicity in declining to be identified. "But this is the same man who was the architect of Jesse Helms's political rise."
Work may be work and one's personal life, personal. I don't see how ANYONE can work against their self-interest, whether they are one person or part of group. Has no one else noticed the numbers on this?
He's 59 and been in this relationship for 40 years. He's been in this relationship since he was 19. That was 1964 (he was married in December). That would have to predate any significant work he's done for the Republican party. However, web cites I could find indicate he's been involved in the campaigns of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. The man has been in a homosexual relationship his entire adult life, but it doesn't seem to have affected his politics. If he's serious about his "libertarian" leanings, why isn't one socially moderate, fiscally conservative Republican on his client list>
Also, his reclusiveness is offensive. Sorry, when you wield that much control over the political process, you don't get to be a private citizen.

Ah yes - those darn ultraliberals with their wicked ways and unchecked wealth from a vast network.
I'll bet they even support gay marriage and could raise say $10 million to fund a smear campaign from their honeymoon suite.
'Stop Hillary' Campaign Traced To Gay Married Republican
by Beth Shapiro 365Gay.com New York Bureau
Posted: April 11, 2005 9:01 pm ET
(New York City) A national campaign aimed at blocking Hillary Rodham Clinton's reelection has been linked to a gay Republican advisor known for running dirty tricks operations and whose marriage to another man was exposed on the weekend.
Thousands of letters titled "STOP HILLARY NOW!" have gone out over the signature of New York GOP Chairman Stephen Minarik, but former President Bill Clinton today said that he understood the fundraising campaign had actually been orchestrated by Arthur Finkelstein.
On the weekend it was revealed that Finkelstein had married another man in a secret ceremony in Massachusetts. (story)
Finkelstein confirmed for the New York Times that he did indeed marry his partner. In what the paper describes as a short interview, the usually secretive Finkelstein said that the wedding had taken place at his home in Boston and that it was in December.
He also told the Times that the two have been a couple for 40 years that they live together with two children. He would not identify the partner, say who was the father of the children, or disclose who officiated at the wedding.
At a news conference about his foundation's AIDS initiatives, former President Clinton said there might be "some sort of self-loathing" for Finkelstein.
"That fellow who used to work for Pataki is doing it. I mean, they give you two stories. One is that he went to Massachusetts and married his longtime male partner and then he comes back here and announces this. I thought, one of two things. Either this guy believes his party is not serious and is totally Macchiavellian in its position, or you know, as David Brock said in his great book 'Blinded by the Right,' there's some sort of self-loathing or something. I was more sad for him."
The Stop Hillary campaign is trying to raise $10 million. The letter promises a Republican "truth squad" that will "monitor Hillary’s appearances and expose her lies."
"She is "the number one target for the right-wing attack machine," it says.
The letter also refers to Clinton six times as a "radical liberal" or "ultraliberal" and says she is the "darling of the wealthy liberal left - especially the Hollywood left" and has a "vast network of far-left contributors."
It appeals to conservatives across the country claiming that Sen. Clinton is running for the White House, although she has denied it on several occasions.
Arthur J. Finkelstein has run attack campaigns for a number of conservative members of the party including former Senator Jesse Helms of North Carolina. He has also run campaigns for Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
