Bush get away with attacking John Kerry's honorable and heroic service to his country.
Bush never attacked Kerry's service. Not once. If anything, Bush spoke admiringly of Kerry's service.
It was the SwiftBoatVets that attacked Kerry. They challenged Kerry to sue them. He would not.
They challenged him to release all of his military records, without editing. He would not.

And what did they do to him to make him bitter enough to give Bush up like this?

O.T. Garrison Keillor on bottled water [just for a little light amusement to start the day] "I am sorry, Evian and San Pellegrino and Dasani and all the other bottled waters out there - Aqua Velva, Wells Fargo, Muddy Waters, Joan Rivers, Jerry Springer, whatever—but the current campaign against paying good money for bottled water when tap water is perfectly good (and very likely purer) is so sensible on the face of it that I am now done with you.
Fini. Kaput. Ausgeschlossen. No more designer water. Water is water. If you want lemon flavoring, add a slice of lemon. You want bubbles, stick a straw in it and blow.
My father, a true conservative, would have smiled on this. All his life he resisted the attempts of big corporations to gouge him by selling him stuff he didn’t need and so he was not a consumer of high-priced water, anymore than he would’ve purchased bottles of French air or Italian soil.
No, San Pellegrino and Perrier got rich off the pretensions of liberal wastrels like moi who thought it set us apart from the unlettered masses. We ordered it in restaurants for the same reason we read books we don’t like and go to operas we don’t understand - we say to the waiter, ”Perrier,” to give a continental touch to our macaroni and cheese.
Enough. Man is capable of reform once presented with the facts, and the fact is that bottling water and shipping it is a big waste of fuel, so stop already. The water that comes to your house through a pipe is good enough, and maybe better."

After last night's discussion... I kept thinking about: "What's interesting about this is that this book would have had to pass the WH first so they knew what it contained but apparently they don't care."
Could it be a matter of wanting to control the TIMING? In 2006, the Mark Foley scandal breaking so close to the election kept the GOP from stealing ANOTHER election because they didn't have time to reset the ballot boxes. We have PLENTY of time now before the first primaries for this story to blow itself out. AND if Pelosi continues to do NOTHING toward IMPEACHMENT, it could drive even more Dems away from the party.

Minneapolis-St. Paul:
On Sundays, the Saint Paul-Reformation Church often holds informal soup and bread gatherings to discuss congregation business. It was at one of these meetings about two years ago that Jim McGowan, a member for more than two decades, proposed that the church stop marrying straight couples.
The church had long welcomed members of all sexual orientations—they had even bucked local Lutheran leadership and ordained a lesbian pastor. But McGowan, a straight man, nonetheless saw a subtle form of discrimination. If the church couldn't legally marry gay couples, he argued, it shouldn't marry straight ones either.
If the congregation does vote to abstain from civil marriage duties, the church will still perform ceremonies for both straight and same-sex couples. The only difference will be that heterosexual couples will have to take the extra step of seeking out a judge to make their nuptials legal.

MCCleelen's confession comes as no surprise to many. Of course, we knew that these war criminals were behind those vindictive actions in the WH.
They keep pretending they don't know, can't remember, or have selective hearing, when it comes to admitting their crimes. This country has become yet another banana republic. The American people have low standards when it comes to the dishonesty in the WH. They will settle for anything.
As for the Dems, that disgraceful lot of spineless idiots; they will perhaps have yet another investigation, that will go nowhere, as usual. Bush and Cheney are worse than Nixon, and are the most corrupt leaders we have ever had, and no one has the courage to hold them accountable. Impeachment? Nancy Pelosi has been a real disappointment, when it comes to any kind of action. They spoke big before the last elections, but they only whimper now.

Why people still give these guys the benefit of the doubt is beyond me. The direct involvement of Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney in the outing of a CIA operative rises to the level impeachment. And, as far as I'm concerned, this revelation by the former White House Press Secretary is sufficient enough evidence to put impeachment on the floor of the US House of Representatives.
The members of that chamber should return to Washington, DC immediately, bypass committee hearings, and vote to impeach. The Senate should return following that vote and remove both Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney from office. From there, federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald should charge both men with treason (among other things), and the war crimes tribunal should charge both men with war crimes.
Anything less than impeachment, removal from office, charges of treason, and war crime charges isn't sufficient. These men have damaged the presidency, the Constitution, and the United States of America beyond recognition. We can't afford to wait the 14 months left in their term and then let them go free.

This past May, in an unheralded and almost unnoticed move, the Energy Department signaled a fundamental, near epochal shift in US and indeed world history: we are nearing the end of the Petroleum Age and have entered the Age of Insufficiency. The department stopped talking about "oil" in its projections of future petroleum availability and began speaking of "liquids." The global output of "liquids," the department indicated, would rise from 84 million barrels of oil equivalent (mboe) per day in 2005 to a projected 117.7 mboe in 2030 -- barely enough to satisfy anticipated world demand of 117.6 mboe. Aside from suggesting the degree to which oil companies have ceased being mere suppliers of petroleum and are now purveyors of a wide variety of liquid products -- including synthetic fuels derived from natural gas, corn, coal and other substances -- this change hints at something more fundamental: we have entered a new era of intensified energy competition and growing reliance on the use of force to protect overseas sources of petroleum.

Bush, Cheney, Rove, Libby, McClellan himself and others rise to the level of traitors in exposing Plame. The lesser lights can't defend themselves with the "I was just doing my job" meme.
Why can't people see this? (And will KKKarl keep his gig at Newsweek?)
Don't give these people a dime for anything they do when they finally get a conscience since they have fostered the lying, cheating, murdering and other criminal activities of this regime.

not in ALL of our houses. Ever had a glass of DC tap water? It smells, it's brown, it's nasty, and DC has had 4 water alerts (read - scares) in the last 15 years after which some people died from drinking it -- It seems that that the waste water wasn't treated properly by the Army Corps of Engneers who run the water supply/treatment system and some of the raw sewage seeped into the drinking watere supply -- our pipe/delivery systems are also very old - not to mention, our water consistently fails tests for acceptable leves of lead (wayy above the epa's guideline measurements) - We were warned not to drink the water for at least a week -- not even after boiling. I challenge ANY of these tap water advocates to come to my place and have a glass of tap, without boiling and no filtering. It's on me '-) - Even if bottled water has just as much crap in it, at least it tastes good and doesn't smell like rotten eggs or a musty swamp.

The number of people in U.S. prisons has risen eight-fold since 1970, with little impact on crime but at great cost to taxpayers and society, researchers said in a report calling for a major justice-system overhaul.
The report on Monday cites examples ranging from former vice-presidential aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby to a Florida woman's two-year sentence for throwing a cup of coffee to make its case for reducing the U.S. prison population of 2.2 million -- nearly one-fourth of the world's total.

C-Span's Washington Journal has Peter Wehner, Bush's Former Deputy Assistant to the President, 2002-07, on and he continues to spew the same idiotic claims that "progress is far greater than even those who supported the surge had imagined." He stated also that there is ongoing very effective diplomacy and that Ambassador Crocker is heading that effort and that there is tremendous reconciliation occurring! I cannot believe this man can sit there and act as if he is a reasonable person and claim that the Bush administration's policies in Iraq are working. He stated that "progress is being made," and that we need to build on that! In response to a Democratic caller who believes the US broke Iraq, he stated "we did not break Iraq, we liberated a broken country." Wehner stated we are not there to stabilize the region for the oil companies but to truly liberate Iraq. He stated we are not there to "steal oil." Wehner admitted "we made mistakes." I have a good sense of character and truthfulness in people. This man is a goddamn liar. Even Republican callers are confronting him about the corruption.
He stated Gen Patreus is a "remarkable man and will go down in history as one of America's greatest generals." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. This man was Deputy Director of speechwriting in the White House in2001 and 2002. He is a war criminal in my view - he is detestable. PEACE

For the first time, (1) annual federal procurement spending crossed the $400 billion threshold, (2) more than half of this spending — over $200 billion in new contracts — was awarded without full and open competition, and (3) the total value of wasteful federal contracts now exceeds $1 trillion.
Last year’s report identified 118 contracts valued at $745.5 billion that had been found by government auditors to involve significant waste, fraud, abuse, or mismanagement. This year’s report identifies 189 contracts valued at $1.1 trillion that have been plagued by waste, fraud, abuse, or mismanagement.

In some ways I think the McClellan admission goes right to the heart of many of the problems we have.
Seems like an understatement to say that the American people no longer believe anything they hear or see in the media, from corporations, or from our government leaders. We have been jerked around, snowed, and bullshitted, by people (leaders?) we thought we could trust, for so long, that we question everything. Religious leaders, corporate leaders, media leaders(on "both sides")and political leaders (on "both sides"). At what point do they see that people aren't buying what their selling anymore? Or was the goal of some of these people to make sure we don't know what to believe anymore? They have accomplished that. Yup. Seems like I question everything and everyone. I question motivations on everything. To me it seems like everything is a maybe. Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't. If that was the goal, congratulations. Seems to keep our people divided, confused and frustrated. Seems to keep us from having faith and hope in our leaders as well.
To me, this thing, from McClellan, had a feel of bullshit from the beginning. All the elements of distraction, division, blame, misdirection and cover your ass nonsense that I have come to expect from the government and media.
It truly is a shame. I believe there are many good people in our corporations, media and government. Unfortunately, they have to work within a system that will not allow many of them to live up to their standards. In fact, it seems many have been so corrupted and jaded by the system that they have become part of the problem. Maybe there are some who do live up to high standards in their careers but lose credibility simply because they are part of a broken system. Who knows, this could very well be wrong about McClellan("maybe"). He may be doing this in good faith and looking to make amends. He may be honestly admitting his mistakes and trying to take responsibility for them.
I would honestly like to believe that.
But, I have to say that after the decades of lies, deceit, greed and selfish actions on the part of corporate, media, and government leaders, I don't take this, or anything, at face value anymore.
I'm tired of being played. I've had enough of the games.
At this point I will only believe consistent actions and results from any of my leaders. Bold and courageous actions and real concrete results. Even then it will take a long time for any of them to gain any real trust from me. No more lies, deceit, egos and greed. I will continue to try my best not to be distracted from the problems and solutions I think really matter, right now.
It will probably take a long time for any media, corporate and political leaders to regain any real trust from the American people as well.
Maybe some are working on that. Maybe others need to get started working on that NOW. Actions>Results.

State Proclamations Calling on Congress to Impeach
A few weeks ago, Kucinich -- with support from the House majority -- forwarded a resolution to the House Judiciary. But nothing has happened. Now, Kucinich is supporting a NH State Proclamation which will call on Congress to impeach the President:
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonl...11/21/6521/
8591
This shows Kucinich does support state proclamations; and that he knows the power of States to force Congress to confront an issue. State proclamations are powerful. There's also another effort underway: State proclamations to call on the House to remove Pelosi as Speaker, to make way for impeachment:
http://mparent7777-2.blogspot.co...-
candidate.html
Kucinich, the States, and We the People know the power of State Proclamations: He's taking action in the Congress; there's support around the nation for proclamations. Please remind your friends that this Congress can be forced to pay attention. Kucinich showed the Country that the public pressure does make a difference.

Kucinich Supporting All Efforts To Bring Impeachment To Table
How soon until Kucinich calls on the Speaker to either make way for impeachment or resign? There's an effort underway to call on the House to bring that question to the table. There's other evidence of the power of state proclamations: Kucinich, after getting his resolution passed, decided to support the NH Legislature proclamation calling on Congress to impeach the President:
http://www.haloscan.com/
comments...a=47698#2713519
It appears Kucinich knows that the House Judiciary Chairman is not going to act unless forced. On the table are other proclamations calling on the House to remove Pelosi:
http://www.haloscan.com/
comments...8959168#2693466
Kucinich's announcement on the NH Proclamation shows the House Rule 603 effort is linked with Kucinich, and all lawful effort to clear the way for impeachment. Kucinich is now leading the House Rule 603 effort, which includes effort to remove Pelosi as Speaker to clear the way for impeachment:

I think this is what the people of the United States of America want to believe; in our corporate, media, and government, leaders.
From Websters Dictionary:
Faith:
1 a: allegiance to duty or a person : loyalty b (1): fidelity to one's promises (2): sincerity of intentions
Hope:
transitive verb1: to desire with expectation of obtainment2: to expect with confidence : trust
Trust:
1 a: assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something b: one in which confidence is placed
Right now? I just don't think there's much, in the way of these beliefs, out there for most of them.

Yesterday, President Bush offer more support for Pakistani President Musharraf, saying he "hasn't crossed the line" and "truly is somebody who believes in democracy." Bush's words are a terrible prophecy for the United States.
If someone were to ask for Bush's description of a true democracy, he would probably say it should include a president who can declare emergency rule, dump the Supreme Court, and round up journalists, lawyers, and human rights activists, all in the name of fighting terrorism. I don't think this is the same kind of democracy most of the rest of us believe in.
Bush already thinks he has the power to declare emergency rule, according to his own executive orders. He doesn't have to worry too much about journalists. Yesterday's Scott McClellan revelation proves it. The mainstream media just doesn't cover real issues unless it's info-tainment. One major newspaper had the story on page 21 while, on the front cover, they featured the last living munchkins from the Wizard of Oz.
The Democrat led Congress is too terrified of losing in 2008 to take a tough stand against Bush. He's stacked the Supreme Court with right-wing nuts who will concede to his every whim. Unfortunately for Bush, he doesn't seem to have the military on his side.
Having said all of that and at risk of seeming more than a little paranoid, the only hope I see for Bush realizing his vision of a true democracy is for another 9/11'ish event occur before his time is up as President.

AMERICAblog has a large and diverse readership. We encourage free speech, and do not care if you are a Republican, Democrat, or even French. We therefore assume no responsibility for what is written in our comments sections -- the comments in this forum express solely the views of the comments' authors, and do not necessarily reflect the views of AMERICAblog or any of its staff. We are interested, however, in fostering a respectful debate and community. We have therefore added site monitors to patrol the comments. The monitors will delete comments, and ban commenters, in a timely manner when we are notified that a comment violates our terms of service. Violations of our terms of service include, but are not limited to, posting comments that are perceived as: personal attacks on other members of our community; violent/threatening; bigoted/discriminatory; slanderous; hurtful to members of this community; and/or intended to disrupt the debate. Spam and "sock puppet" comments will also be deleted and banned. We also reserve the right to delete any comment, and ban any commenter, for any other reason we deem appropriate. Decisions are final, and not open to debate. By posting in our comments you agree to accept and abide by these terms.
