Excellent program: Walls of Shame - US/Mexico border
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/
...A90811D2EF0.htm
It matters little what they are called – whether walls, barriers or fences - the intention is the same: to redefine human relations into 'us' and 'them'. This series is about division, and about the barriers that men erect, in calculation or desperation, to separate themselves from others, or others from them. When diplomacy and conciliation fail, this is the alternative, and not since medieval times have walls been so in demand around the world. Tens of new walls, barriers and fences are currently being built, while old ones are being renovated. And there are many types: barriers between countries, walls around cities and fences that zig-zag through neighbourhoods.

Good morning, A-World! It's a brisk morning here in Orlando, FL where the mercury plummeted into the 50s Farenheit overnight. Locals are doing the sensible thing and bundling up against the dangerous chill that high humidity makes so cruel. Meanwhile the Snowbirds and turistas display their pasty skin in shorts and t-shirts. Sales are good! Bask in the Florida sunshine this winter! Bring money!

Julie,
I was reading about a town in TN that has already run out of water. They have the fire engine drive to another town, fill up then drive back to fill up a water tank in town. Water is turned on for 3 hours every night only.
Funny how the south is running out of water.....they happen to house most of the extreme bible thumpers as well.

Actually none of this should come to a surprise to anyone.
The guy was booted out of the Air Nat'l Guard for doing drugs and drinking, went AWOL after that, has failed in every business he was ever involved in, etc.
On top of that he appears to be a borderline sociopath, narcissistic, dry (wet) drunk, and so on and so forth.
The fact that Corporate America, fascist rat bastards that they are, aided and abetted by whores on MSM, who's life styles trump democracy for all Americans, and who used this pimp for their own ends, is also not surprising.
We are exactly where America wants to be. Even the Democrats laugh when you bring up impeaching Dick Cheney, a war criminal as well as a lying thug who has committed treason numerous times.

BREAKING: Wexler Will Urge House Judiciary Committee to 'Schedule Impeachment Hearings Immediately'
Letter Calling for Action Sent to Constituents After Kucinich Resolution to Impeach Cheney is Referred to Committee
Says 'Vice President Cheney must answer for his deceptive actions in office'
As reported in full by David Swanson, in the wake of yesterday's wild ride (and game of chicken) on the House floor concerning the privileged resolution filed by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), calling for the Impeachment of Dick Cheney.
The following is from a letter sent to constituents today by Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, where the matter has been sent again.
Wexler is now calling for the committee "to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months."...

why do we keep electing the same politicans to congress and hope for a different result? with impeachment off the table this is a great reason for term limits because they do not listen to the american people. they have been in office too long. either term limits or vote a different person into office each term. hope that they put up more progressives. i do not want to be know as a war nation but we have been in a war in some fashion for the last 100 years. why.

Lynn - one can hope. Just getting the VP under oath to answer questions will propel this whole event forward.
An impeachment trial should be public, and our founding fathers knew that once a criminal and a traitor was put under the spotlight, the American citizens would join to have the person impeached.
What are the Dems afraid of? Do they not know that Americans love a fighter? Especially fighting for the rule of law? By continuing to be spineless the Dems are surely sealing their own fate. History will mock their cowardness until the end of times.
Or is it blackmail? Are they afraid for their lives? their families? or is it that they too are criminals?

Here are a few paragraphs from a post at Glenn Greenwald’s site over at Salon from guest blogger Chris Floyd, Oct. 26 showing why impeachment is not a distraction (suggest you go to the archives on that site and read the whole article):
“…For above all, impeachment should be moved to the top of the congressional agenda. It should be the overriding, all-consuming priority of the people’s representatives. For this is the inescapable, stone-cold truth: nothing, absolutely nothing but impeachment, will stop the Bush-Cheney regime from carrying out its criminal agenda…
(snip)
Congress passes laws forbidding torture; Bush and Cheney ignore them. Congress issues subpoenas and demands documents for its corruption probes; Bush and Cheney ignore them. Bush’s “signing statements” explicitly state that he will follow only those parts of the law that suit him. Congress could vote tomorrow that Iran cannot be attacked without a formal declaration of war, and Bush would attack whenever he chooses anyway, calling it an extension of the congressionally authorized action in Iraq, a “defensive” action to protect the troops. Congress can pass any law it wants, but if you have an executive branch that considers itself above the law – as this one demonstrably does – then it doesn’t matter. As long as Bush and Cheney remain in power, their criminal enterprise will go on.
Thus impeachment is not a “distraction” from efforts to end the war in Iraq, or stop a new war with Iran, or quell the vast and sickening corruption of the regime. It is their prerequisite. And even if impeachment is “politically impossible in the present circumstances,” as Bush enablers like the pusillanimous Nancy Pelosi likes to tell us, it should be shoved to the forefront of national debate nonetheless. Let us have a “constitutional crisis;” let us bring our festering sickness to a boil. Let’s lay it all out, and let people declare once and for all where they stand. Are you for the republic, or do you hold with tyranny, torture and mass murder? Let’s draw the line at last, and be done with all pretense.
But we know that what should be done will not be done. We see that the Democrats have taken impeachment “off the table.” We see that far from stopping or curtailing the war in Iraq, Pelosi and the Democratic leadership punish those among their number who dare speak the truth: that Bush has indeed sent American soldiers to have their heads blown off for his amusement, for his aggrandizement, for his radical agenda of loot and dominion. We see that far from stopping the rush toward a new war with Iran they are instead abetting it, declaring their overwhelming assent to the deceitful casus belli Bush has offered. We see, with despair, that the national Democrats share the regime’s radical agenda of endless militarism and hegemonic sway, differing only on a few points of style and decorum, and a desire to see more “competence” in Iraq and “future wars.” …”

Water Storage
Whether it is because of drought, or because of pollution, maybe it's time for families to become more water independent.
I was listening yesterday to the latest Ring of Fire show, which included a segment on how Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Mike Papantonio had just won a huge lawsuit against Dupont for polluting the air and water of a community for decades. I think in that segment they mentioned that 40% of the nations water is polluted. ?? Would have to listen again. But a key factoid is that in that case, the local EPA office was working WITH Dupont and destroyed evidence to protect the company.

Why are humans in such a state of calamitous affairs? Either one doesn’t care or is to scared to acknowledge what is here! Why the mystery with history confounding us? Why are humans so comfortable with the self destruction? Why is it almost like a war crime, a mortal sin or to be seen as weak, to be pro human, empathetic or have compassion for a fellow human? Why is love almost extinct, I wonder what God thinks? WHY DO PEACE MAKERS ALWAYS DIE FIRST?? Is this arrested development evolutions effect?? What happened to intellectual and spiritual development? Then what about creationism? Are we the creation of a higher being, or an experiment? What and where is the higher power?? Why abandon us?? Why is the nature of reality so elusive?? Some are so weak that, that reality causes insanity. Are we remotely controlled and programmable? Why for self and environmental destruction? Why? Why do humans have a overwhelming need to worship, be loyal and be obedient to higher powers or causes? Why are we afraid to be alone? Why are humans obsessed with big buildings and showing we are here? Why do we work so blindly at building, not seeing or caring about environmental impact! Why? Why are humans easily obsessed, like glorified chimps and subject to poor mental health? Why are humans obsessed with shiny rocks and minerals and other substances of the earth, again like glorified monkeys?
Why with the vast resources of OUR EARTH is there a class of poor people world wide? Some humans kill millions for objects of obsessions or look the other way while it’s done!!! Oil, diamonds etc. Why do humans have obsessions for power and security? Why? Why am I forced to subsidize corporations that are destroying our habitation?? Why are all the animals dying?? Why? Why am I so scared because I want a better world to live in? Why do SOME people seek to be considered a God or royalty, superior in general, at the expense of justice for the rest of humanity? Why are people with the least power blamed for much of the political & socioeconomic problems? Why is scapegoating the poor cathartic for the rich & powerful predators? Why is it that human sacrifice is considered over? Looked upon as a barbaric practice by the savages of the past? When clearly thousands of humans are sacrificed every day for a plethora of reasons, causes etc.? Nothing has changed, human life is considered cheap clearly! Why does existence feel like a lead suit?

The House passed a landmark civil rights bill on Wednesday that had been sought for three decades by the gay community, but the celebration was muddied by miscalculations by Democratic leaders and recriminations among many of those the bill is intended to help.
...
The House vote was largely symbolic, however, because the legislation stands little chance of enactment in this Congress. It faces daunting odds in the Senate, where it has not even been introduced, and President Bush has promised a veto.

It is absolutely amazing to me that Democrats in Congress doesn't have the balls to impeach both Cheney and Bush. I mean if Clinton gets impeached over lying about a affair with some ugly office worker then killing thousands in a reckless and unnecessary war crys out for impeachment. But no there are too many Dems that are worried about their re-election and how impeachment could be used against them. So they let the country go down the crapper.
In case no ones noticed, the current US economy is almost a mirror image of Japan's just before their economic collapse. They had allowed the yen to devalue and had to keep lowering interest rates to keep the economy going. But that just further devalued the yen forcing them to further lower rates. Guess what the US is now doing. They lowered rates causing the dollar to weaken causing oil prices to soar. If this keeps up, we will be paying $5.00/gal for gas. Not to mention more for basics like food due to higher production costs. Our money is becoming so devalued that other countries will not see it as a good investment. If there is no one to buy our debt, a major recession is just around the corner. This is the legacy of Ronnie Reagan and George Bush and the other 'free market' Rethuglicons. It's just too bad that Democrats will take the fall.

But at least Bill O'Reilly is free from suspicion:
FBI Hoped to Follow Falafel Trail to Iranian Terrorists Here
By Jeff Stein, CQ National Security Editor
Like Hansel and Gretel hoping to follow their bread crumbs out of the forest, the FBI sifted through customer data collected by San Francisco-area grocery stores in 2005 and 2006, hoping that sales records of Middle Eastern food would lead to Iranian terrorists.
The idea was that a spike in, say, falafel sales, combined with other data, would lead to Iranian secret agents in the south San Francisco-San Jose area.
The brainchild of top FBI counterterrorism officials Phil Mudd and Willie T. Hulon, according to well-informed sources, the project didn’t last long. It was torpedoed by the head of the FBI’s criminal investigations division, Michael A. Mason, who argued that putting somebody on a terrorist list for what they ate was ridiculous — and possibly illegal.
A check of federal court records in California did not reveal any prosecutions developed from falafel trails.

Violence in Iraq is NOT plummeting.The last couple of months have beenthe bloodiest ever.Bin Laden, the killer of 3,000 people has never been caught.
North Korea, no thanks to Bush, was well on it's way to calming down through negotiation, not bombs.
While unemployment appears to be low those numbers do not reflect the people who have dropped off the rolls and are still unemployed. Plus Team Bush has a new way of calculating those figures.
UH, whose taxes have been cut, not mine. Big business taxes have been cut drastically, how is that helping this country and the economy.
Watchdog agencies have been weakened and cut to the bone. Additionally, these agencies are staffed by people whose only claim to fame is they are loyal bushies.
Environmental laws have been repealed in favor of big business.
The dollar is devalued and continuing to slide. For god's sake, the Canadian dollar is worth more than the American dollar.
AND YOU SAY THERE IS NO CRISIS!!! Nothing Bush has done in 7 years has helped this country remain it's status as a world leader. Nothing has helped the American people

I saw of a video of a recent GWB speech in which he criticized Pakistan's Musharrat: "Hey, you can't be both the president and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces at the same time."
Uhh... wait a minute! Isn't Bush both the president of the USA and the commander-in-chief of the US military!
Can anyone provide a link to this video?

You're wasting their breath. Remember, this is a country where a significant number of people believe that angels follow them around all day to micromanage their lives.
The Bushite dead-enders like the "period troll" are just in the last stages of their death dance of denial -- like the people who were claiming that the Soviet Union was "rising to glory," even as the Berlin wall was coming down.

GaLiberal: yes indeed I think you are on the right track about the gutless wonder Democrats in congress.
Rep. Stark from California had the balls to get up and call out Bozo Sh-t-for-brains Bush for what he was and the lily-livered cowards we were all so hopeful about when they were elected, made the man apologize. They should have made him Speaker of the House. Speaking of which, does ANYONE know why the Daughter-of-the-Don-from-Baltimore has kept saying Impeachment is off the table??? I have more and more concluded she must have made some doubtless very lucrative deal way way under the table with The Empire of Evil, Karl Rove maybe? Because she has surely been ONE MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT to say nothing of that tired old pol Steny Hoyer whom she dragged to prominence.

Forward this to your friends, and to your State Legislators for debate; and here are important back-up links to support the following [Precedents from the House in re Speaker Removal, State Proclamations]:

State Proclamation Calling For Removal of Nancy Pelosi As Speaker of the United States House of Representatives
Whereas House Rules Prohibit conduct by any member which may bring discredit upon the House; or engage in any conduct which would allegedly violate the law;
Whereas House Rule 603 permits any State Legislature to pass a resolution calling for a change in leadership, including Constitutional officers; and that this resolution is privileged;
Whereas House Rules Recognize that a Speaker may be removed after the House Members vote on a privileged resolution removing the Member of Congress from their role as Speaker;
Whereas Nancy Pelosi took an oath to the United States Constitution, 5 USC 3331, where she promised to have no mental reservation in defending the Constitution against domestic enemies;
Whereas Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others have allegedly conspired to block review, investigation, and discussion by the United States House of Representatives, their Members, and Committees of impeachable offenses of President and Vice President of the united States;
Whereas Speaker Pelosi and others have allegedly brough discredit upon the House by refusing to fully assert her oath of office, has demonstrated mental reservations about her 5 USC 3331 oath of office requirements;
Whereas there is ample evidence supporting allegations against the President and Vice President which the Speaker and others have said they are not interested in reviewing because of lesser, non-constitutional goals, allegedly in breach of her oath of office, and in contravention with the House Rules requiring conduct to fully support the Constitution as the Supreme Law;
We the Legislature/Assembly of the State of ________ do pass this resolution calling for the United States House of Representatives to remove Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the United States House; and the House of Representatives Vote to Start Immediately an investigation into the impeachable offenses of the President and Vice President of the United States.

. unemployment is down? How do you know? You only know what you are told.
Once a persons unemployment benefits are up after 26 weeks, the government counts them as working, regardless if they are or not.
One might ask "well why the hell would the government do that?" Ir's simple really. The government back in 2003 cut off unemployment benefit extensions.
So today, in order to qualify for an extension after your benefits expire your States unemployment % must be at a certain number, say 5.8% to qualify.
As long as the state and federal government falsely manipulates the numbers this way no state will ever have to pay out any benefit extensions....GET IT?

No excuse not to impeach: There's no risk of a backlash against the DNC. The RNC is already in trouble.
Polls are against the GOP:

Funding isn't going to the GOP:
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonl...11/8/133829/

Even if the DNC were to suffer a "setback", that's not going to change what funds the DNC has raised.
There is no argument nor fact pattern supporting the Speaker's contention that impeachment is "bad" for the DNC. No, "refusing to impeach" is bad for the Speaker: She can be be removed.

Have Gun, Will Rule
Musharraf is bent upon ruling Pakistan because he has a gun in his hand and Bush & Chenye are backing him. The people of Pakistan be damned.
One the one hand US Administration tries to justify Iraqi occupation by saying it is bringing democracy to Iraq and on the other, it supports a military dictator who decimates democratic institutions, independent judiciary and rule of law.
The Pakistan Supreme Court was about to rule whether Musharraf could be a candidate for President for another term. According to the constitution Government employees are not allowed to contest elections within two years of retiring and Musharraf has not even retired yet. It was a forgone conclusion that Supreme Court will find Musharraf ineligible. Instead of stepping down quietly and handing over power to Senate Chairman, Musharraf has resorted to extreme and ultra constitutional steps.
How many people in the U.S. would stand for it if George Bush did this to the U.S. Supreme Court and its judges? No civilised society should stand for subversion of the highest courts, shredding of constitution and detention of judges, lawyers and politicians.
People of Pakistan have always complained that various U.S. Administrations develop friendships with their rulers & dictators and not with people of Pakistan. This has led to resentment and strong anti-American sentiment in the country. It is time that the ordinary citizens of United States impress upon their Administration to stand up against the rule of gun and express solidarity with people of Pakistan as they need and support to defeat a dictator.
Musharraf is not the only person in Pakistan who can help fight terror. The people of Pakistan are fed up with extremists and want to ensure that terrorism is brought to an end. This is better achieved through democratically elected leaders rather than through a military dictator.
The only way Musharraf will listen is if US Administartion insists that he immediately restore constitution, allow the Supreme Court to function with all its judges as before, withdraw emergency rule and release all lawyers, judges, politicians and other citizens.

Many stupid comments were posted in response to my previous post from this morning, but none more stupid than when Aquarius2 posted this about North Korea. (North Korea, no thanks to Bush, was well on it's way to calming down through negotiation, not bombs).
What's stupid about this statement is that the BUSH administration negotiated this latest agreement with North Korea and all the surrounding countries. BUSH INSISTED on the 6 party framework that involved ALL of the surrounding countries. (so much for the cowboy diplomacy argument) The Democrats went crazy when Bush insisted that the United States would not sit down one on one with North Korea to negotiate a new agreement.
When Bill Clinton foolishly negotiated directly with North Korea they cheated and developed a nuclear program. Bush stuck to his guns and insisted on involveing the surrounding countries and they got a new agreement. Now if North Korea cheats, they will be cheating 6 seperate contries, not as likely a proposition as cheating on only the United States.
Aquarius2, clearly you don't have a clue about what took place with North Korea and you're making yourself look stupid. Frankly, there is no excuse for you being ignorant of these very well documented facts.
Bush has been in office for about 7 years and somehow you claim that the agreement with North Korea did not involve Bush? WTF? Who was North Korea negotiating with if not Bush.
Do some fucking reading on the subject and get back to me if you want to continue to kick this around.

Question for Ajaz Haque...
You say...
Have Gun, Will Rule
Musharraf is bent upon ruling Pakistan because he has a gun in his hand and Bush & Chenye are backing him. The people of Pakistan be damned.
I'm just curious about why it's NOT okay for Musharraf to rule with the butt of a gun, but Liberals don't seem to mind if Hugo Chavez does? Chavez is setting up a Cuba style dictatorship, and Liberals are completely silent. 80,000 college students protested for democracy in the streets this week and Chavez thugs shot them up and killed several.
More Liberal hypocrisy...

Hmmm, quite a rant and name calling. I notice the ONLY thing you addressed was Korea---what about everything else? If you think for one minute that I will give credit to that moron in office you are nuts, of course, that has already been established by your pie in the sky thinking where Bush is concerned.
You say nothing is in crisis, do you read the news or do you just read the blogs and jump in with defensive statements about your hero?
I could care less about your Republican ass. This country isdrowning. I care about the country, obviously you are too consumed by hero worship to see everything sinking.
BTW, you MIGHT want to read about Bush's Korean policy. The following article sums it up fairly well.

The calculus of good sense surrounding all of us is an issue, especially how Americans understand it, is the challenge. The problem with that one issue were Clinton fumbles the answer on “Does she support the Governor of New York” to give a drivers license to illegal aliens is a penetrating and revealing debate to me.
Just saying “it makes good sense” does support the issue, however, like in all questions moderated the gradient social effects that span the issue can not be summed up as a simple yes or no in a spot judgment. Here, at that moment the moderator, Tim Russert displayed a serious flaw in exactly that natural cultural debacle that has been in progress for decades. It also showed me the serious flaw in many other television journalist that could have taken just a short depth and breath to “compassion” and underscore the long time hypocrisy coupling this ridiculous situation of aliens running around undocumented. Here, Hillary Clinton with force said “We all Failed’. Hillary was correct. True Hillary, digressed in the actual definite “Yes” at the time, however, later came out to support action.
With that said and the way the media is haughtily sounding off on Clinton’s as her debacle, as a good candidate for President, when in fact our Mainstream Media has been the core of huge, huge responsibility, intellectual know how, and politically loaded bias throwing the public into confusion is the real terror and horror America faces today. For this Media has known this deluded social issue and deliberately waited for this political grandstand to motive and manipulate the vote. If you can’t see that America is blind.
Lou Dobbs and Company, by far the biggest offense disgusting and shameful participant that should be challenged for more than reporting but filling America hate based bias and stretched sedition that warrants “oath and affirmation”. These Journalists are likely with help from Cheney, churning their computers with classified data. They simply pop on this stuff when ever they want to move poling numbers. Novak Knows that.
My take on drives license for aliens are the same, I support the ideal. Especially alien Mexicans have no recourse in our society. Illegals now need to have transport in order to be able to have job and function just as you and I do. Deliberately keeping Alien Mexicans from this privilege only encourages this social sector into a more desperate situation then they already are there because of the greed in cheap labor, and failed immigration policy that is our governments fault across the board both Democrat and Republican. Depriving Illegal alien Mexicans of the driving privilege actually is counter productive to a realistic movement to solve the problem. Many rational processes can be built in to create a safe objective, one obviously, much could be done to find those who can not read or write English.
Oh, incidently, I am more solidly for Hillary Clinton. Since Obama thinks baby boomers should drop dead he has lost my vote for thats what I am a very true baby boomer that suffered through the vietnam era and Obmba can go to hell.

My only point was that every problem in the world is NOT a crisis. Every problem is not the fault of the United States or any given Republican.
No, I did not address all of your points because you were so far off on North Korea that I figured what's the point. You simply hate President Bush and everything Republican. And NO I don't worship Bush. He aggravates me too with excessive spending and not sealing the southern and northern borders air-tight. But he is clearly a good man trying to do his best with a tough job. He's not evil or creating a dictatorship. Bush will leave office in a year, Hugo Chaves will not be leaving office ever. Liberals here love to hate dictatorships, unless they are socialists.

Response to more liberal hycoricy:
Indeed Chavez is running rough shod over his people and trying to be life President, that too is wrong. But at least the first time he came to power he won elections to gain power, whereas Musharraf gained power through the barrel of a gun and wants to continue it that way.
In 2007 it is shameless hypocisy to allow a military dictator in any country to decimate institutions the way Musharraf is doing.

You mention "your lifetime". I wonder how old you are. What experience you have etc. I really don't want to fight with you because I don't even know you. You could be a nice guy. But you do sound young to me. Limited experience etc.
You mention deficits in your last post and how they have never been as bad as today. That is simply not true. Todays deficit as a relationship to the countries GNP (Gross National Product) is lower than it was in the 70's. The U.S. economy keeps expanding (no matter what Liberals say, the economy is expanding) That makes the percentage of the deficit smaller than in the past. Most economists are not concerned about the deficit. Yes, we waste far too much money in this country. Democrats just led a veto over-ride of a pork barrel spending project that Bush vetoed. And military spending is a small piece of the overall 3 trillion dollars budget. Yes Bush enacted a HUGE entitlement program for prescription drugs that should never have been enacted. I don't support him on that. That program should have been "means tested" for only poor senior citizens.
You also say that the United States is "looked down on by other nations". I say BULLSHIT to that. In the first place, it's not true. And even if it was, who the hell cares? The world does not operate on a popularity contest. When the chips are down, the world looks to the United States for leadership and guidance. The new French president just addressed a joint session of congress and said wonderful things about the United States. Germany's new leader also has warmed greatly to the U.S. Of course Socialist governments such as Hugo Chaves hates the U.S. but who the fuck cares? Why is that important? The United States is a very rich and free society and yes, some are resentful of that. But the fact is that we give more and do more than any other country in the world.
Additionally, you should think about how politically a government will have one message publicly and a completely different message behind the scenes when they talk government to government.
For example. Do you really think that ANY government in the middle east supports Iran's quest for nuclear weapons? Hell no they don't! Iran is feared in the region and when the U.S. bombs the nuclear facilities in Iran, there will be loud outrage from the other middle east governments. But of course, they will have quietly granted overfly rights to the United States to fly through their airspace to launch the attack. Watch how the Russian nuclear technicians currently building the Iranian nuclear facilities will quietly slip out of Iran a couple of days before the bombs fall and you will understand what I'm talking about.
This is the way the game is played. To be overly sensitive to what others think is just silly and naive.
My closing thoughts to you would be to suggest that you listen to the Cato podcast on iTunes for the libertarian viewpoint. They are well done and educational. And the average Libertarian also does not like Bush, so you have something in common already.
