Gravatar Oh my goodness, that's staggering news. Is this condition progressive with age? Is it uncommon? Was it just mitaken for PCOS all that time because it's rarer?

I can't imagine needing to adjust my self image to include intersex. Not that intersex is a bad thing, just uncommon.

It sounds like there is treatment, though - something to reduce androgen production, perhaps?

I am close to having PCOS, but subclinical. However, I produce enough follicles a month to produce at least one set of fraternal twins and make me completely unwilling to risk triplets.

Please post more of your thoughts, this sounds like a challenging and interesting journey on top of an already challenging and interesting journey that is your life so far.

Gravatar Wow, Mary, you got part 3 before I even wrote it. Good catch. It is not progressive, in that it gets worse as you age, but the cumulative effects of it untreated do. Just like PCOS develops into possibly bad things, so can CAH. And while I am not exactly genetically intersex, I will discuss the self image adjustments soon
It is a rare disease, and while the clinical information on PCOS states that the tests should be run for CAH when PCOS is diagnosed, a lot of dr's still don't understand PCOS, let alone CAH. 1% of PCOS diagnoses turn out to be CAH, so it is easy to overlook. That is a shame, because the treatments are different.
