When I was a baby and I was sick my mom gave me coke in a bottle. It is good for headaches too!
When I was younger, I was chronically ill with these migraine type headaches and I remember my mom giving me flat Cokes as a way to settle my stomach. Not sure how it will fare with a stubborn cough though.
I started taking Zinc pills on the advice of my pharmicist cousin about six months ago and I hadn't gotten a cold *well, I hadn't until I ran out of pills, didn't take any for ten days...then I got a cold.* Anyway, you may want to look into them!
oh dear. Maybe you should just bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer thing and use it all the time. That's what my sister in law used frenetically all the time but only to protect her baby from her!
We have that stuff at school, the hand sanitizer. We also have a bleach mat at the school's entrance in case there are any wayward germs that want to hitch a ride on our shoes. 
I used to temp at a place that swore by Bath and Body Works Hand Sanitizers. I was there long enough in fact, to get swept up into the Cult of Hand Sanitizers and buy one of my own.
