Rent is one of my top three musicals. I'm not quite sure if the movie lives up to the show, but the power of the songs is undeniable.
Well, it's certainly not as organic as seeing a stage show would be but mostly all of the cast members from 1996 are there (even if they are older) so I think it works. 
The movie's great, don't get me wrong, but I absolutely was blown away the first day I sent Rent on-stage. I guess I was hoping for that same feeling on-screen.
I am glad you can understand why I have seen it so many times now!! I have bought 3 copies of this so far and it took me ages to get "i wanna go ouoooooooht tonight" from my head. Unfortunately in Australia we haven't gotten that on stage yet but would have loved to see it
