Do I think the folks on side A go after the folks on side B from time to time? Sure. I have no problem believing that there are entrapment schemes galore just waiting for politicians of all political denominations to step in, set by dirty players in the opposite party.
But as one of the commenters after the article said, "He smoked himself." Politicians do that from time to time. And sometimes - every once in a while, anyway - our justice system does exactly what it was designed to do.
Elliot Spitzer had a lot of enemies. For instance in the Insurance Industry he is known has Hurricane Elliot because he did as much financial damage to the Insurance Industry as Katrina and all of the other Hurricanes. And if you were watching the news - Wall Street cheered when they heard the news - despite the fact that the Dow was declining that day. He ran roughshod over any business he could find just to make a name for himself.
And yes, he was really attacking the unborn babies and the Catholic Church. He broke the law - he was arrogant and stupid and that is why he went down. No one was pulling any strings.
