Well idk if same-sex "mariages" will destroy society but I do now that family is the foundations of society and when that crumbles, all else does

Touchy subject, to be sure.

I know where you're coming from and tend to agree, Kelly. Of course, I will defer to the bishops if I am wrong about this but it seems to me that matrimony is a church issue and not a courthouse issue. Call me crazy, I just don't find "matrimony" anywhere in the Constitution. Maybe we'd all be better off if there were no civil laws regarding marriage at all. Am I correct in thinking that history shows the Church fighting the moving of marriage ceremonies into the courthouses? Seems I've read that. Or, at least, I've read the opinions of not-so-ancient Catholic theologians who have said matrimony shouldn't be performed in a courthouse. I'm not really clear on it, so pardon my ignorance, but truly, what is all the fuss about? I think we'd all be better off if civil laws on marriage were erased from the books. But then, what would those protestants do who insist that because church weddings aren't mentioned in the Bible then churches shouldn't have wedding ceremonies? Adapt, I guess......to the obvious truth which is that matrimony is a holy institution of the Church that should begin in the Church, not the courthouse.

You good kid.

I've mentioned this point on my older blog, the world 'matrimony' means the act of becoming a mother. Whether it be value of not only of life, but also the conjugal act that may bring life, a secular society wants men to be responsible for their children. The easiest way for men to be fathers is to be committed to the child's mother.

So there is a public policy interest in the what is marriage, but there are special interests in the breakdown of the family. I recently wrote on my own blog.

"There is a lot of money to be made in the breaking of the family. Recent MCLE offered for lawyers in Massachusetts. “Crafting an Effective Parenting Plan” When you’re married this isn’t necessary, my husband and I do it ourselves without the help of courts, lawyers, pediatricians, or psychologists. There is no ‘plan’ we just wing it every morning, as we vowed to do. It saves the state and society a lot of money, but it keeps an industry with one less customer."

When I practiced law, it was the time Goodrich decision came out. Fellow lawyers were with glee that they had a whole new demographic for divorce cases. A peer would comment 'we got one', for their first divorce case of a same-sex couple.

There is a lot of state management of families and children, when the parents are not capable of maintaining a healthy and loving relationship with one another, but big business to be made in the problem.

Newsflash: heterosexuals have done a damn good job of Destroying Marriage without any help from homosexual activism, thank you very much. All you have to do is look at the divorce stats for as long as I've been on this earth to figure that out.

Here's a video that was produced shortly after Proposition 8 passed in California, which speaks to that very point.

I'm not at all confused about my gender but I've gotta admit it...many a time, say at Fenway, I've snuck into the Men's Room to avail myself of the facilities because (no offense, dames) the lines in the Lady's Room were way too long for my taste...or my bladder.

Been there myself in the opposite direction, but in my case because of kidney stones. I have had them off and on for a dozen years now ("off" for the time being, praise Jesus), and long ago learned to shed any bashfulness about the situation. The ladies' room is not off-limits in an emergency. Anyone who wants to step into my shoes during those times is welcome to do so, and we'll see how fast the sign on the bathroom door becomes quite irrelevant.

Statistics from the Archdiocese of Boston...number of "weddings" performed per year:

1986 12, 274
1998 8,896
2007 4,213
2008 3,727

The crisis in vocations certainly extends to marriage. How has the local Church responded?

Well jeepers, anon, I've done my bit...I got married in 2009!
