Nice list, Nik. I actually spent years of my young teen years desperately searching for a copy of BATMAN FROM THE 30S TO THE 70S. I had the SUPERMAN book -- got it cheap on a remainder table, in fact -- but could not find the BATMAN one. Finally, a guy in a bookstore at a neighboring town said he had one, then forgot to bring it to work when I arrived. He felt so bad he just GAVE me the damned thing. Still got it, too!

I still cannot find the "Shazam 40s to 70s" volume to complete the set -- I've seen it occasionally on eBay but for well over $100. What kills me is in Arizona a few years ago I saw it in a used book shop for $20 and didn't get it for some stupid reason. Argh!

Cool list, Nik. Nice to see Ambush Bug remembered, and Quantum & Woody. And Transmetropolitan is Warren's best work (IMHO), so it's nice to see it singled out (even though Warren has a place on my list, when I get round to posting the damn thing).

Did I read the list too fast or did you really leave off Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns?" And like I really know what I'm talking about. My childhood exposure to mainstream comics was in the form of Hanna/Barbara cartoons. Batman and Robin guest spotting on "Scooby Doo" anyone? The first actual comic book I ever bought was "Watchmen" and that was right before I moved to Oregon three years ago. And then Nik hooked me up with some pretty good stuff.

Yeah, I left off Dark Knight Returns. But I'm kind of regretting it now. Consider it #101.
