Gravatar I think there's a crucial difference between putting the awesome scope of your fictional universe on display, and steeping a story in so much minutae that it is completely inaccessible to all but the most learned reader. CoIE did it right, but I'm still not sure on which side of the fence IC is going to fall. Wait and see, I guess...

Gravatar Yeah, that's basically the gist of all my ramblings. I can't judge the entire thing on one issue, but it's definitely leaning toward too much detail, too little context, the more I think about it.

Gravatar I've lost all interest in comics over the past 10 years or so and have picked up less than 4 titles or so regularly.

But this just somehow took me back to 1985 again and my 15 year old expectations of DC.

I totally loved it. And that last page... woah! My favorite version of the character is back! WooHoo.

That is until the next Crisis.

Oh comics. How I love thee and hate thee at the some time.

Gravatar Does this mean that they're going to repair the damage and character assassination they inflicted upon Jean Loring and Ray Palmer, ditto Sue Dibny and Elongated Man? I should hope so.

And I may as well make a note while I'm at it: I don't care for personalities for the characters, or I certainly don't consider it a top priority, that's for sure. I should hope that after this, they're going to cut it out with all the needless crossovers for at least ten years straight.

But does that mean that I'm going to buy Infinite Crisis? No. Considering what it was built upon, that being Identity Crisis, and that it exploited a serious subject for cheap sensationalism, I have no interest in wasting my precious time and money on this one either, nor do I have any interest in House of M.

But you're certainly right that DC's interest in new readers is questionable at best. It just goes to show how badly self-absorbed a lot of comics personnel are just now.

Gravatar I also enjoy that DC is apparently reacting to the "darkening" of its comics universe in the past decade or so, and this series may bring some much-needed lightheartedness and a sense of wonder back to a comics cosmos that has gotten a little too bleak for its own good.

Eh, I'm not getting too hopeful. The DCU has been getting even darker over the past couple of years, and that team is basically the one responsible for IC. Yeah, all of that could have been a build-up to this, but it seems like if they really believed comics were getting too dark, they wouldn't have risked alienating people by making the situation worse.

Yeah, I saw some of what you did in IC, but just am not sure what to make of it yet. We'll see.
