Hey Nik,
Fascinating to hear about the differences in elections. Great blogs! It is so exciting to have Barack Obama elected president. We are in quite a crisis over here so he certainly has his work cut out for him, but I'm hopeful he will accomplish some of his goals, especially making college more affordable (providing a credit toward student loans for those serving in the Peace Corps would work into Natalie's plans); universal health care and getting us out of Iraq. Say hi to Avril and Peter from us.

A lot like a Canadian Election. Here you pick the member of Paliament in your area who represents the leader of his party.
I'd like to see a system where you could pick an MP and the Prime Minister separately, but yes, so much less complicated than the U.S. system, and it took me all of three minutes to vote, minus the drive over to the school where they had the polling station.

I'm totally ready to be in an "election free zone" for awhile! This week was too much.
Hopeful signs about the new Key government in that he's reportedly planning on having the right-wing parties with ministers outside cabinet (you know, just like Labour did and then National said the government would fall). This means that Key can keep his party in the centre and rely on the true right-wing parties just for confidence and supply. Good first steps.
