I'm afraid there are a good many people who would disagree with you KF. With a republican administration, and a republican led Congress, it would appear a good many people in this country WANT the balance altered. Which is why democrats most likely won't filibuster. That and the fact that most dem's have lost their balls and have forgotten how to fight.

As for Alito, well "His background, record and silence on a number of questions spoke volumes about his likely performance on the court. I expect him to settle comfortably on the right of the court and write careful and intelligent decisions that support his longstanding ideological views and values." [ Thomas Mann, a Brookings Institution scholar]

I just have one question.
What happened to making decisions based on The Constitution?
No one's personal opinions, not the opinions of a particular party or religious sect, but by interpreting the Constitution.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with this statement. Look at all of the recent polls and you'll see that the Republicans aren't nearly as popular these days. Not to mention, the last time we had an election, Bush only won by a scant margin. I think the tides are turning.

My point, however, is that Alito is too far away from the center to provide any balance to the court. I'm not necessarily opposed to a conservative, but Alito's not the one.
