This is a very strange incident. I think I'll reserve judgment until ore facts are available - I don't see how they can declare it's not a terrorist act until they've interrogated him?

My condolences KV, from what I read on Wikipedia last night this should have been a really fun day.

It's hard to imagine what would drive an otherwise normal person to hurt so many innocents who just wanted to get a glimpse of their Queen and have fun.

Tragic.

Thanks mr. Cromer. You are right, best to reserve judgement until we know more.

At the press-co the police spokesman defined terrorism as 'an act carried out by an ideologically inspired group'. For the moment we know of no collaborators. So, by that definition this is not terrorism.

Given the nature and timing of the attack, I can't think of any reasonable ideological justification anyway. I must admit that when I first heard of this affair, my first though 'sudden jihad syndrome', but the facts don't bear that out.

What any 'ideologically inspired group' would stand to gain by this act, I don't know either. When the shock wears off, this Tates character will find he has only managed to piss off an entire nation (if he lives that long, that is).

The only reason I can think at the moment: The guy had trouble coping with life and finally just snapped, after which evil took over. Not very rational, but then this entire affair isn't.

Police closed highway 12 between Utrecht and Den Haag after a car involved in a car crash contained a suspicious package. A bomb disposal unit is investigating the car.
