Gravatar You had me there, until I found out the Wal-marring is for the children. Got to go with that. I mean, it's for the children.

Ya think people might stop to think that here are the unionized teachers telling us about what a better retail experience we'd have if the store was unionized. I mean, look how well it worked for education.

Gravatar This feels like a Trojan horse - go after WalMart on this issue, which from a PR perspective looks winnable, then go after something the Union wants (like, well, unionization).

WalMart is a pretty amazing company. Much less popular in Dem strongholds than in Red States. And being big, easy to bash - they can't really bash back.

I agree with Ken, it smells like strong-arm tactics in the making. This is the warm-up.

I know people in the retail business. The pricing pressure wielded by WalMart in the general marketplace is hard to exaggerate. One really can make a case for Wal Mart being a major bulwark against inflation, one of the reasons we're not seeing a spike in inflation as we'd seen in the past after a recession.

While I object to union strongarm tactics, I just saw a West Wing episode (a weakness of mine) in which there was a spiel re education. Teachers should hake six figures, education should be enormously expensive for government and free to anyone who cares to partake (although they better keep their grades in line, I'll add). I'm for the teachers, and you'll never part them from their union. The teachers feel it's them and their union against the world.

Anyway. I bet WalMart can defend itself. Their prices may be low-rent, but not their executives. Those are passionate, driven people who live, breathe and bleed WalMart. Not your typical corporate shills who'll cave under pressure.

Gravatar That is so annoying! I'm not even in school and now I feel obligated to by 'back to school' stuff from Wal-Mart.
