There's a small piece of good news to offset all the bad. A recent survey of CEOs indicated that workforce quality was the most important factor in evaluting states' business environments. For all of NJ's negatives, we do have a good workforce.

In a sense, the situation in NJ is a microcosm of larger trends affecting the US. We are unable to compete with lower cost environments, but we do have the brainpower to compete at a more sophisticated level. If only the politicians would quit pissing away our resources.
