You mentioned that the Democrats "have a personnel problem" and I agree. Their bigger problem, in my estimation, is that they have no philosophical sense of direction, no ideas and do not inspire hope or confidence. Nominating an uninspiring candidate like Kerry certainly doesn't help matters for them.
There are a handful of Democrats that I believe can help the party develop a coherant strategy. Whether the likes of Harry Reid, Nancy Pellosi and Hilary Clinton will let that happen is another issue altogether.

How about Governor Richardson? Ronnie Musgrove? Ed Rendell? Phil Bredesen? All are fairly popular. Maybe not with the left wing base though.
