Issues like this take up too much of our political energy. The homosexual issue is being fueled by the right, and is not helped by the behavior of the gay community. In some states there is "domestic partnership" legal arrangement. I realize I can't tell the gay community what to do, but a compromise of some kind would seem to help their cause.
People who care about it don't seem to mind expending the energy. As long as the decision stays with the legislatures (or in referendum states, with the electorate), I don't really care about the outcome.
