Gravatar Tap dancing in Jello. Sounds like work.

I agree about the levels of informational consumerism, and the most challenging aspect to that is that I (Mr. High Info Consumer) have to be careful about giving out to much information when in discussions with Low Info Consumers.

It has to be small meals, because they can't digest too much at one time. (I'm not saying they are small minded, they are just not used to that much at one time.)

Gravatar Do you know that you left your book here?

Gravatar Yeah, I realized that. Give it to Tristan, maybe?

Gravatar That's Tristin with an 'i', actually. Perhaps. Perhaps I'll read it too. Presumably you'd like it back some day? I know how to use the US postal service, and I don't fear it the way *some* people do...

Gravatar It's perfectly rational to fear mailing things...um...yes...

Gravatar I agree with your concerns about security and the importance of 9/11. I'm also a committed liberal and Kerry supporter. The Iraq War was a distraction from the war on terror and Al Qaeda. Michael Moore's essential point, which is well documented and beyond dispute (cf. Richard Clarke's testimony), is that the neocons wanted war with Iraq long before 9/11 ever happened. They brazenly used 9/11 as an excuse for a war of choice in Iraq, rather than fighting the war that had been taken to us by Islamic terrorists. As a result, this country is more detested around the world and less safe than ever before.

Gravatar

By the way, I searched the web for information related to your UNICEF statistic and couldn't find any. You may be confusing the deaths due to Saddam's rule with the deaths due to the US-imposed sanctions following the first gulf war. Do you have a citation for the number you cited?

I'm a liberal and I care about facts.

p.s. I found your site because I was looking for Kerry bingo cards. Great work! But where are BINGO4.jpg and BINGO6.jpg?

Gravatar And UN imposed sanctions are a result of what? Saddam's rule. Not to mention the fact that Saddam was building palaces all over the place while the kids were dying. Also not to mention the people he just outright killed, who are not included in the UNICEF number.

Gravatar I was curious about those figures too, actually. Where did you find them?

Gravatar Katie - Just had to comment on this post as it parallels what I go through every time I try to debate politics with my liberal friends. Another tactic of theirs is to claim that only their liberal, left-wing sources are valid and none of my sources are valid (including those coming right out of Iraq, ie, Iraqi bloggers, military blogs, news reports from those stationed in Iraq, etc). Talk about blood pressure boiling over!

Gravatar Okay, so I have found out that 1000 characters isn't very much for as much as I ramble on...continued...

That is the one thing about which I am most frustrated with myself. Whenever I get into a debate with liberals and they take the "because I just know" route in validating their claims, I get so frustrated. Then I tend to get a bit heated and I am sure that they ignore what I am saying (despite the facts that I provide) because I am coming across badly. Then I leave feeling more frustrated with myself than with them as I feel I have failed in my attempt to pursuade or educate or at least enlighten them to the facts of the matter. Of course, you said it best: "trying to argue with liberals-by-faith is like trying to tap dance in Jello."

Gravatar I can't even imagine what it is like in Ann Arbor, MI at UM talking to the multitudes of close-minded liberals there. Yikes. I at least am an engineer (Purdue BSME 1999) and deal with other engineers each day so they at least attempt to think things through rationally and with reason and logic. Although, when it comes to politics, I tend to wonder if they left their logic in their computers or PDAs.

Anyway, I came across your site from Miss O Hara's site where you were linked for your picture for the Eiowin Voters. Which I think was great also, by the way. I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan also, so I knew the analogy right away.

Great blog you have here and it also gives me hope that not all women coming out of typically liberal universities turn out liberal minded. Keep up the great work as you now have another fan of your blog.

Gravatar Yay! I'm glad you like it. Amazingly, NYU is even more liberal than U of M, and my new strategy for debating liberals is this: I don't. Over the course of our election watch party, most of my friends figured out that I wasn't a liberal, but we don't talk about it. It's just not worth it, for any of our blood pressures.

Gravatar Wow. I have a young German friend named Paul, whom I have never met, but talk to on ICQ from time to time. I say young; he is in his 30s, but considering I am 20 years older...

Anyway, having read the preceeding posts, I now feel much better about my disucssions with him, and can finally say to myself: See! It's NOT me!

He is very anti-American, and anti-Bush. He accuses me of being close minded, and says I am paranoid, yet, when I give him links to some conservative websites that support my points, he dismisses them out of hand.

And he accuses me of doing the same when I don't take his tales from Der Spiegel at face value...one of the most biased anti-American magazines in Germany!

At any rate, thanks for letting me see I am not the crazy one.

Maria

Gravatar I know just what you're talking about! I live in Ann Arbor, too. What are the odds of two of us on the Watcher's Council being in the same small city!

Pat (aka Dr. Sanity)

Gravatar I actually don't live in A2 anymore -- I went to U of M but now I live in New York City.

Gravatar You can't reason someone out of a position they were never reasoned into in the first place.
I forget who said that first, but its good.

Gravatar I say it all the time. But it wasn't me either.

Gravatar Where to start? I assume you are a Republican. Seems all well educated(brainwashed) people are Republicans. I don't associate myself with any political party as i think one is as bad as the other. Although i did lean toward the Libertarian Party with Ross Perot. I thought he was the best to come along since "Give em Harry." I think i admired him for his use of common sense rather than education. Ronald Reagan? How can you respect a man who calls his wife "mommie?" John Kerry? The man had his problems but i don't think we would have had to wait 9 minutes for a speech writer to send George W. what to say about 911. Fundamentally i think George W. is an idiot. i'd still like to know who he paid to do his work in college. As for him getting us in a war with Iraq. All he's doing is making his rich Texas friends richer and while we're at it we'll liberate the Iraqi people. Besides, war is good for the economy. Is'nt that what they said about the Viet Nam war. And who was president then? Oh that's right "Tricky,I am not a Crook,Dickie." And why do we need all this oil? So the Elite people in this country, can drive Gas-Guzzling SUVs, so they feel safe. And the Lady Warrior from fantasy land. A bullet between your eyes will stop you faster than you can say Merlin. Talk is cheap and so are peoples lives to certain groups of people.
911 was a wakeup call. Do you own a gun. do you know how to use it. Well you can beat that whoever comes to harm your family and friends does. Swords, knives and magic aren't going to save you or your family or friends. Just like the thief in the night,if they want to get into your house, they will. I don't mean to sound like Chicken Little but do you see it getting any safer here? Really safer? I can still envision HiJackers crashing planes into Atomic Power Plants and chemical factories. They don't necessarily have to HiJack planes in the U.S. I hope my ignorance doesn'y stop you from answering my comments.
Just one more thing. Why should we question Michael Moores motives any more than we did George Ws motives for going to war with Iraq.?
And how do you spell potato?

Gravatar This I identify with completely. Uninformed DemoClones are inescapable in new jersey. I admit that I have difficulty finding news sources that don't raise my blood pressure, and thus am not as informed as i would like to be. Sadly, journalism's favorite color seems to be yellow anymore.
Contine your keen observations, i beg of you!
