Gravatar There is a famous saying, Nomad, that perhaps you have heard of: "When in Rome, do at the Romans do."

Gravatar Mr. Shott the right-wing blogosphere is going ape sh*t over Laura Bush and her Muslim veil just look at Debbie Schlussel:

While your sentiments about the Romans is just fine maybe you can educate some of your more enlightened country men/women such as Debbie Schlussel about the saying.

Gravatar I've never heard of Debbie Schlussel, not that it makes any difference, other than that she isn't anyone special in conservative circles. And after scanning her site, I wouldn't identify her as either conservative or right wing.

I think there are certain times when it is fine to wear the hijab, and other times it isn't. Whether Mrs. Bush changed her mind, or "went back on her word" I don't know.

But I notice that while she has it on in the photo with the other women, she does not have it on in the company of the two obviously Arab men, and there is an Arabic language flag in the background, indicating (I believe) that she declined to wear it in that particular Arab/Muslim situation.

Just as I feel Muslims ought to adapt to (some) American customs when in the US, Americans ought to adapt to (some) Muslim/Arab customs when in those nations.

And I think most Americans could care less whether Mrs. Bush wears a hijab or not, unless there is a good reason why she shouldn't wear one.

Gravatar I don't what that judeofascist Schluseel is carping about. She wore a hijab herself when she tried to "infiltrate" a mosque.
She's been profiled as part of Judeofascist Awareness Week.
