What are those wooden pits with the covers on them? Hide from Polar Bears? Rabid Seals? Flying Salmon?

Well, I think you're talking about the sled, but I'm not sure. Do the updated captions help?

Wooo hoooo! The Camera rocks - what a beautiful place - reminds me of a winter Strathmere. Love the sled - is it called Rosebud? More pictures please!

Dave,

Your blog is one of the best blogs I've ever visited. So many blogs leave me fealing empty and alone. Your blog does not. It makes me feel good. Actually, I've never really been to a blog before, but that doesn't change the way I feel when I visit this blog. Keep up the good work. I like the pictures.

Good morning! Man, I really enjoyed the pictures - the lighting was perfect. It's always interesting to read what's happening on your side of the world. Thanks for posting, as it gives me a glimpse into a new culture.

Hi David, my husband has just been reading over my shoulder - he says "there doesn't seem to actually be much rubbish at the dump. What happens to the rubbish that can't be burned at home or burned at the incinerator?" Have you just not posted a photo for aesthetic reasons, or does it go somewhere else?

Ally,
I thought about posting a picture of the metal and stuff... but I thought that if the situation were reversed, and some outsider were comming into my home, I
might not like them taking pictures of my refuse and posting it on a website for all the world to see. Maybe no one would care, but I don't know.

An awesome series of shots. I really like the perspective from low to the ground on many of your images. Beautifully done.

You are very welcome, and you deserve some press!
I enjoyed reviewing your site. Your review should come up on the Weblog Review in a day or two. Hopefully this weekend. (Surely by Monday!)
One question popped into my head about all that water surrounding the town. What about mosquitoes? (Not now of course with frost and all) but looks like it might get scary in the spring.
I am trying to imagine what tundra is actually like. Can you walk on it? Are there pools of water and some high spots, or is it like a sponge?
I will be checking back often to see how you are faring in the frozen north!
Write On!

Why the boardwalk? Protect the tundra? Is there any prohibition about leaving the boardwalk?

I use a factory restored Canon Powershot 60... my first digital camera. 2 mps are plenty for me.
The boardwalks have been around longer than anyone can remember (although they have been upgraded)... there have never been any cars, so there was never a need for roads. Why build roads when there are no cars and wood is easier on the feet? So much cheaper too. And they can be built high enough to avoid floods. No dirty shoes! Snow is easy to shovel off the side. They just make all kinds of sense.
Stephanie! What are you doing for Thanksgiving? Ha! Email me...
