Thanks for the dose of culture! It reminded me of sorts of a Puerto Rican event during the holidays called "Paranda".

Groups of people visit homes of friends and relatives to sing, dance and party, and the host also serves food. After a while, the group moves on to another home where it all happens again. The only differences are that no worship takes place, and no gifts are handed out.
