Freaky stuff. Have you actually seen any of the "Big Rigs" going up the river? How big were they?

Sweet pics! the second Bering Sea shot is ridiculous...

Very cool pictures. Thanks!

I didn't actually see any the large vehicles personally. I heard it happens a lot though. Ace, Janine- I'm glad you like these shots; I was sort of hoping they'd turn out a little better. Robyn- the last picture is a close up of just the school and it's buildings (storage, teacher housing, the oil tanks). It is the center of the village, but from the airport to the farthest house is probably a little over a mile.

Dear David,

Is the last picture the entire village? From your other photos through out the year, there seem to be a few more families and people in the community than these photos show. Are there a few more clusters of buildings, or do the larger building house more than one family, like apartments or something?

I really enjoy your blog very much.

Hi, new reader here. Great blog.

I lived in the western 'burbs of Philly before leaving the US to teach. I spent three years in Poland and have been in Germany for almost three years now.

Keep up the good work, both teaching and blogging.

Nice web site! It is nice to see some one up north sharing their life style.

My husband and I are teachers in Morocco right now.

We love it --but we keep thinking of returning to the US and heading to Alaska to teach---may be some day--

Keep up your great work--

Great Photos!

Great blog. Thanks. I play around with local history and genealogy on my blog. Keep it up
