Did you see Chrekoff's UN (t)error Warning System, he hits the nail on the head. All the UN does is hold meetings, issue 'strongly worded statments', increase the number of diplomats who can park where ever they want, and hold lavish parties.
This is of course when they are not doing under-the-table-deals with dictators.

It drives me crazy to think that my tax money is being wasted on these guys.

Last year I spent several weeks in a hotel right next to the UN in NYC for reasons wholly unrelated to it. Simply looking at the quality of the suits in the elevators spoke volumes about the UN's institutional priorities and those of the individuals feeding at its trough.
