I left a church, in Texas, because I could no longer endure the twittering of so many Harvard graduates in membership, like the Athenians in last Sunday's reading, "always hungering for some new thing." Of course they are unpatriotic, but even more, they do not measure up to their own avowed (trifling) standards of intellectual honesty or curiosity. They are so silly that, if they were not dangerous, they'd be really funny.
Shouldn't all this be referred to as "the Phantom Menace"? I mean why is it we can see what is happening and our leaders seem more blind than the western leaders in the 1930's. For all that the Republicans have stepped up to the plate after 9/11, I do not recall any politician speaking of the Islamic terrorist threat in the 1990's when the first WTC attack and the attack on the Cole occurred. Where was our Churchill warning us in the 90's?
Someone said that a Liberal was someone who was too proud to take his own side in a fight, and it appears, from the resistance to profiling and other, more effective security arrangements to controlling the borders (terrorists coming into the country under cover of poor workers, much like how Ulysses and his men escaped from the Cyclops is a grievous wrong), to the Ports scandal, to too many things to list, our elected officials (masters) are all liberals and will not take our side in this fight for our lives and our civilization.
I'm concerned about Islamic extremism, but for a variety of reasons I think we should be talking to Iran.
Interestingly, in 1959 my Spanish class went to Harvard to hear a young revolutionary named Fidel Castro talk for hours about I forget what. The Republic has survived.
We should do Khatami no honor, but we should protect his person. 'Twouldn't do for him to buy the farm while here. Not even at Harvard.
Why do you lie? Khatami is a moderate and someone you should respect: "I personally never said that Israel should be wiped off the map," Khatami told CNN. "I always said and backed fair and equal peace in the region." Showing such reckless disregard for truth and bashing anything Iranian only serves to alienate people from that country. Something that was already shown in the last presidential election. Toss away the language of "Axis of Evil" and learn the basics of international dialogue.

Iranian - I care much more what he has said inside Iran and what he had done than what he says to CNN. Moderate depends on the scale you're using.
He has said no such thing inside Iran and has done no deed worthy of such a disgusting treatment. Sorry, but I'm not a simpleton American that you can fool with this nonsense.
Iranian - perhaps you can inform us of what you know about what Mr. Khatami has said in Iran that has not been adequately covered by the Western media? Please, we are listening: make the case for why--in light of the verbal abuse heaped on us by what appear to be his colleagues in government--he should be considered trustworthy and independent of their outrageous and belligerent statements. Simply calling him a 'moderate' is not a lot to go on with what appears to be at stake for the world.
I will be attending the wedding of my Iranian college roommate in a few weeks and would be happy to have you enlighten me/us before then.
